Baking Impossible is the mad and incredible addition to the baking reality TV genre. With host Justin Willman and judges Baker Andrew Smyth, Joanne Chang, and Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, the show features an eccentric amalgam of engineering and baking where nine teams put their creativity to the test by creating “incredible, engineered, mouth-watering marvels”.
The whole idea seems to have come out of Andrew Smyth’s head. He is a professional engineer and an incredible baker and with Baking Impossible, he seems to have found a way to fuse his two passions. If you want to know more about Andrew, his baking, his engineering, and his dating, keep reading.
Baker Andrew Smyth On Baking Impossible
Announcing the trailer of his show on his Instagram, on 8 September 2021, Andrew described the premise of the show as: “Well, we paired up wonderful bakers and ingenious engineers into bakineer teams, challenged them to build edible creations that must taste delicious and survive intense engineering stress tests to win $100,000. Trust me, you’re going to love the teams and the challenges.”
Andrew further added that he was the executive producer of the show, apart from being one of the judges, and was the one who was the one who developed “the challenges and concept”.
He was also the one who came up with the idea of “Bakineering”. He had the idea in 2018 and that was the beginning of the creation of the show.
On a side note, Bakineering as an idea exists outside of the Baking Impossible as well. Andrew has done several “Bakineering” shows throughout the UK and Ireland with partners like Royal Institution, the European Space Agency, and Cheltenham Science Festival.
Apart from Andrew, the showrunner of Baking Impossible was Daniel Calin. The show premiered on 6 October 2021 on Netflix.

Andrew enjoyed a comfortable season, with Star Baker titles in two of the weeks and only one bad week. He was the favorite to win the show. But Alas!

In February 2019, he posted a photo with a woman, the two of them drinking “espresso martinis” with the following caption: “Celebrating 9 years with my University wife.
