Just like he did before, he talks to people and hears their eyewitness accounts of the creature he has been looking for all his life.
James is still active in the Bigfoot community. He continues to attend conventions and community events in the Bigfoot world. Among others, he managed to sneak in a brief appearance in the independent 2021 Bigfoot documentary, Bigfoot at Bluff Creek. He was also included in the 2021 Finding Bigfoot reunion episode, “The Search Continues,” where he and the other team members used modern technological advances to further their lifelong search.
Then, also during the “History & Mystery Weekend” event, James he cared to share that he is currently in talks with networks and that there might be a pick-up of the show.
His relationships and personal life however remained a complete mystery, at the time of this writing. Just a few facts known would be — his dad played in the Ivy League, so James watched a lot of games with him. In a tweet back in 2016, he also briefly mentioned his mom.

In the late 1980s, James attended Humboldt State University. It allowed him to explore nearby Bigfoot hotspots including the infamous Bluff Creek and Willow Creek areas.
Then, it was 1989, when he finally recorded the first of multiple Bigfoot sightings.

Thus addressing the sudden loss of weight and seeming-hair loss, fans showed concerns and worried if he had cancer. And thankfully James clarified that he was healthy and his weight loss only resulted from diet control.
