Jershika Maple’s journey on NBC’s The Voice began with “Can You Stand The Rain” by New Edition in the blind audition round. She was able to turn the chair of two coaches Kelly Clarkson and John Legend chair at the same time. But despite all the effort that John put to get her on his team, she ended up choosing Kelly as her coach.
Speaking with Shreveport Times, Jershika opened up about how “The Voice” audition came about. She revealed that her two friends Miracle Holloway and Rose Short they were both on Season 17 of the show and they both won. When Rose got off the show, she did a little background singing for her.
She knew Miracle from church events through church networking. They told her that the show was looking for people to audition. Because she wasn’t into the competition shows and was not confident, she gave some thought to it. And eventually, she made it to the audition.
In the battle round, Jershika sang Justin Beiber’s song “Hold On.” She was put against Jeremy Rosado, also from Team Kelly. Even though she earned praises from two coaches John and Ariana, Kelly chose Jeremy as the winner of the battle round. However, she was available for a steal and both John and Ariana pressed the button to have her on their team.
But, she decided to go to John.
In the Knockouts, Jershika sang Inseparable by Natalie Cole and battled against Paris Winningham. And she won the round.
In the Live Playoffs, she sang “Beggin” by The Four Seasons, “God Only Knows” by For King & Country in Live Top 13, “How Can I Ease the Pain” by Lisa Fischer in Live Top 11, and in Live Top 10 she brilliantly sang “Ain’t it Fun” by Paramore.
Jershika made it to the Top 8 of “The Voice” season 21. Now, she is up against, Team John Legend (Paris Winningham, Joshua Vacanti) Team Ariana Grande (Jim and Sasha Allen), Team Blake Shelton (Lana Scott, Wendy Moten), and Team Kelly Clarkson (Girl Named Tom, Hailey Mia).
