Ketanji Brown Jackson met her husband Patrick G. Jackson because of her debating skill. As a star in Miami Palmetto Senior High’s speech and debate team, she landed the opportunity to go to Harvard for a debate competition. Despite the winter she called “unbearable,” she met the love of her life while falling in love with the university.
According to NPR, Patrick was Ketanji’s first “serious boyfriend”. Because her husband was a pre-med and math and Ketanji was a government major so she believed that she and her husband were an “unlikely pair” in many respects. But, somehow they found each other and dated continuously for 6 and a half years through the end of college.
Ketanji then earned her law degree and married her husband Patrick on 12 October 1996. Together, they have two daughters, Talia Aenzi (born on 29 June 2001 in Suffolk County, Boston), and, Leila Abeni (16 June 2004 Washington DC).
In the 2017 speech, she also talked about the parenting style. Ketanji shared she and her husband taught their daughters to put work before play and respect all people. She also talked about the difficulties inherent in balancing work concerns with family starting her legal career with a newborn.
