American Idol kicked off its 20th season on 27 February 2022 and a contestant with the name Normandy shocked judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan singing “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner.
The “Roar” singer was especially so amazed that she jokingly stormed off the set after a couple of bars. Yes. all three judges gave her the go-ahead to continue to Hollywood. So now let’s get to know her thoroughly in this ‘American Idol Normandy Bio’.
Meet Normandy On American Idol
‘Never judge a book by its cover’ is what Normandy taught the judges and audience of American Idol when she auditioned for the show.
Clad in a pink outfit, with a carrot backpack and bunny slippers, Normandy’s animated look matched her high-pitched voice. Judges were left stunned by the difference in her very high, cartoon-like speaking voice and singing voices.
In her introductions segment, Normandy had explained how she has struggled with being taken seriously due to her voice. She also seemed a bit worried that the judges would judge her right away.
Luckily the audition went well and the judges who were initially amused by both her looks loved her rich alto voice.
At one point when Normandy seemed a bit taken aback, Bryan even assured her with, “We’re not laughing at you, we’re laughing because you’re kind of amazing.”
Normandy was also asked to perform an Adele song when she chose “Set Fire To The Rain” and (of course) nailed that too.
She appeared on the opening episode for season 20 of American Idol. The episode also featured Aretha Franklin’s 15-year-old granddaughter, Grace, who unfortunately did not receive enough votes to move on to the Hollywood round.
Be sure to see Normandy on the upcoming episodes of American Idol airing Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
