Sharon Smith is worried stiff! Her husband of over 3 decades, Mike Leach, is now in a “critical” condition in a hospital.
So, while we wait for the much-needed miracle to happen, let’s learn all about Mike Leach’s wife as this Sharon Smith Bio proceeds.
Meet Sharon Smith, Mike Leach Wife
Sharon Smith first met Mike Leach while they were attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. It seems Sharon’s sister was married to one of Mike’s former roommates, and the two got to know each other after that.
So yeah, they were friends for a while before being engaged romantically.
Recalling the old days, Mike said that he used to visit Sharon’s home at the King Henry Apartments to watch TV with her and her roommates. Sharon’s favorite show then was M.A.S.H. while Mike preferred Gunsmoke. Joking about the matter, Mike added, “It’s almost sacrilegious to anything American and I tried to get them back on track, which I think I did successfully. Sharon was a bit of a tough case, so I had to marry her where I could keep an eye on her a lot more frequently.”
As for their first date, Mike took Sharon out to an A&W Restaurant in Provo after a rugby game. And surprisingly, he pulled out a 2-for-1 coupon book and told her “here’s the menu.” Well, though a risky move, the gamble clearly worked.
Sharon even joked that their first date was not planned out in advance and that it only happened because Mike had been hungry. “He probably had the two-for-one coupons and I was the freebie,” she explained.
Fast-forward to the mid-80s, the duo then tied the knot in a wedding ceremony led by Sharon. Recollecting his memories of the planning, Mike joked “women lose their minds” when it comes to wedding planning and that it’s not possible for a groom to give the “right answer” to anything. He even advised grooms to largely stay out of the planning and “as far out of harm’s way as you possibly can.”
Sharon Smith And Mike Leach Children
Sharon Smith and Mike Leach share four children named Janeen, Kimberly, Cody, and Kiersten.
Their oldest, Janeen was born in August 1985. She followed in her parent’s footsteps, attended Brigham Young University, and even lived in the same apartment complex where her mother had lived. Now, she works as a Family Medicine Specialist in Morrow, GA. She’s been in the practice for over a decade.
Also, in 2022, she was married to Mike Clark for over 13 years.
Mike is a Provo, Utah native who attended Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and Brigham Young University. He worked in the medical field as well.
Sharon’s second child, Kimberly stepped into this world in 1989. She received her master’s degree in education from Texas Tech University and went on to work as a reading specialist. She was also married.
As for Cody (their only son), he arrived in 1996. Completing studies at Ed Irons Middle School, HORACE O’ BRYANT, Key West High School, and Pullman High School, he went on to become a counselor at Camp Longhorn. He was engaged as well.
Sadly, we don’t know much about their youngest Kiersten (born in 1998). Here’s her FB @kiersten.leach.7.

Sharon Smith was a full-time administrative assistant and legal secretary for Pepperdine’s athletic director for about 14 years. In 1996, she then quit her job to be a stay-at-home mother after Mike was offered to be the offensive coordinator at the University of Kentucky.
It certainly was a difficult time for them before that — as Mike graduated from Pepperdine School of Law in 1986 but decided against a career in law to pursue his dream of becoming a college football coach.
But now, Mike’s a two-time national coach of the year, three-time Power 5 conference coach of the year, and the mastermind behind the NCAA record-setting “Air Raid” offense. He even was named Mississippi State’s 34th head football coach on January 9, 2020.
Over his 2 decades of experience as a head coach, Mike has compiled a 150-103 (.593) record, led his squads to 18 bowl games, produced 7n seasons of at least nine victories, captured 2 conference division titles, became the winningest coach in Texas Tech history and set school records for bowl appearances at both Texas Tech and Washington State.
Fun fact: Mike didn’t make a career change because he was bad in law. In fact, he graduated in the top one-third of his class with a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University.
