Who Is Rochelle Herman-Walrond?
Rochelle Herman-Walrond’s path crossed with Jared Fogle when she was a single mother pursuing a career as a radio and TV personality. Her son Thomas who also appeared on the show reflected, “She became like a huge regional star. As a kid, I definitely found my mom to be really cool. She would always be going out and doing things for the radio and TV shows she had.”
Thomas admired his mother for her generosity to underprivileged people on the streets.
Rochelle claimed that her program focused on obesity because it was a widespread health concern in order to inform and promote fitness among the general American populace. The American Heart Association called her in the fall of 2006 to have Jared Scott Fogle, the spokesperson for the Subway diet, appear on her show.
In particular among children and the younger American age, she compared his success story and renown to that of Michael Jackson. Jared was perhaps 30 to 40 minutes late for the radio and television broadcasts of the program, according to Rochelle.
The radio host continued to remember Jared’s charm and flirty manner and expressed how flattered he felt by it. When she informed him that her daughter Angela was a fan, he consented to take a picture with the youngster. Rochelle recalled how ill she felt after the entire series of events unraveled, starting on that day shortly before the broadcasted broadcast. She was looking back at the photograph.
Rochelle claimed that Jared moved in close to her and said something horrifying in her ear that would alter the course of her life. According to her, his exact words were, “How hot do you think middle school girls are?”
Rochelle experienced nausea in the weeks that followed as she struggled with the moral choice of continuing to pursue this or letting it go. She was unable to contact the police because she had sufficient concrete proof to implicate Jared, and because of his fame, he was able to dismiss any claims made against him without delay.
Rochelle even searched him up online, but she was unable to locate any evidence of his criminal history or his tendency toward deviance. As a result, she made the independent decision to gather proof and present it to the police, more out of parental duty than journalistic duty. Rochelle decided to do further investigation.
First, she obtained Jared’s phone number and extended an invitation to another program. She called him, made friends with him, and asked him probing questions until she thought he was too at ease with her to reveal his bizarre thoughts. Jared was first quite cautious on the phone, but the radio host was recording the chats.
Jared allegedly requested that she wear her hair in pigtails so that she seemed to be a young girl when she set up a meeting with him in his hotel room. Now that Rochelle was certain Jared was a pedophile, she made the decision to carry on with her inquiry.
All the work that Rochelle put in turned futile as the proof she had obtained could not be regarded as proof when she felt she had enough evidence and took it to the FBI. The FBI officials also warned her that since she taped without permission, she might be charged with a felony. They instructed Rochelle to keep talking to Jared on the phone as she recorded his damaging remarks. The agents also informed her of the procedures she needed to follow in order to avoid future legal problems.
Prior to Jared’s arrest on July 7, 2015, Rochelle claimed she kept recording their conversation for approximately five years and gave the tapes to FBI agents in prearranged drop spots. He was taken into custody by the FBI and Indiana State Police after an investigation team raided his home in Zionsville, Indiana, on suspicion of receiving and distributing child porn.
Jared entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 15 years, 8 months in prison, along with a lifetime of supervised release. In addition, he was mandated to make restitution payments of millions of dollars.
