Don Abenante is on Netflix’s Resurrected Rides as a metal fabricator and mechanical engineer. One of the team’s funniest and liveliest characters, Don piques the interest of the audience. He has been fascinated by cars for a long time as he was accompanying his dad as the latter worked on his projects as a diesel mechanic.
In fact, Don helped his father restore a historic boat when he was just eleven years old. The father and son wanted to construct an automobile together. Even though they decided on a 1970 Chevelle and began saving money to purchase it, their desire was never realized since, when Don was about 15, his father tragically passed away from drinking.
“He (Don’s father) dreamed of me rolling into school when I got my permit with the car him and I built,” Don said in a social media post discussing it. “We found this Chevelle and it was time to pull the trigger. I was fired up and so was he. He passed away suddenly, I was left stranded and lost. The owner of the car was amazing he held onto it for a few months while I worked at Burger King. Long story short my grandpa funded the rest of the cash and I had my dream car.”
In the field of automotive engineering, Don has established a solid reputation for himself through his work on several noteworthy projects. He has been committed to pursuing his love of manufacturing and welding at his company, Retro Fabworks, since May 2020. He currently owns his shop where he works on his passion. Don’s goal came true in 2023 when he proudly announced that Retro Fabworks is home to “the first AWD 59 Elcamino powered by the mighty Ford Godzilla,” following years of planning and labor.
Don gives his father credit for giving him the strong drive to achieve his life’s ambitions. Don chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and earn his degree in Automotive and Diesel Technology, thus honoring his father’s legacy. After that, the mechanical engineer went out into the world and worked for a while as an automotive technician.
When he was given the opportunity to work on a 157-foot yacht, he discovered his calling. He so spent the next ten or so years working on various naval vessels.
Don is quite active on social media, giving glimpses of his masterpieces on Instagram and longer movies on YouTube, and he consistently produces engaging content for all of his car fans. He revealed in December 2023 that he is prepared to work on realizing a childhood goal of his and his father’s: renovating a 1970 Chevelle, which was his first vehicle.
In a vulnerable post, Don stated, “I have had this car for 21 years now and built it over three times. it has been the catalyst for all my energy into fabricating. It has been my dream the last ten years to get her into the 8s. Miss you old man let’s get the Chevelle back rocking again in your name.”
In an emotional video posted to his YouTube account in April 2024, he promised his followers that he would keep them informed about his project to transform the Chevelle into a true Street Cruiser as a memorial to his late father.
