Meet Bill Thomas, one of the 12 contestants joining Channel 4’s The Great Pottery Throw Down in 2022. The show first aired in 2015 and got love from the viewers. Now, it is on its fifth season and you’ll meet Keith Brymer Jones and Rich Miller, judges for this season, while Siobhán McSweeney and Ellie Taylor host the season.

Along with Bill Thomas, you’ll meet AJ Simpson, Anna McGurn, Cellan, Christine Cherry, Jenny Cobb, Josh, Lucinda Lovesey, Miles Johnson, Nick Robatto, Tom Demeranville, and Zahra Jabir.

Bill announced his participation on his Instagram with a bunch of hashtags related to pottery.

Fact: Siobhán McSweeney had an accident in September 2021 while filming for a new TV show Holding in her hometown.

At the time of the filming of the show, Bill Thomas was 63 years old. He celebrated his birthday on 20 January 2021. He will be turning 64 in January 2022.

Going by Bill Thomas’s social media, we know discovered that he likely came out as gay later in his life. He was in a relationship and also married to his partner Chris Chadwick. They were together at least since 2015 because Chris had featured him on his Facebook first time in March of that year.

Based on one of Chris’s Facebook posts, they tied the knots in late May 2016. He captioned the post, “The big day”.

Bill and Chris are often seen visiting events, taking trips, going for lunch and dinner with other family members. But, Chris was diagnosed battling cancer for an unstated period. In May 2020, he was admitted to the hospital because of the complications but was discharged later on.

A few days after writing the post, Chris went to his Instagram to celebrate his and Bill’s wedding anniversary. He wrote, “Happy anniversary to the best thing that ever happened to me by far love you forever xxx”.

According to Bill’s Facebook, Chris died in mid-September 2020. A lot of his family and friends went on Bill’s social to say their condolences to Chris and good thoughts to Bill.

Furthermore, Both Chris and Bill appear to have had their own family before they came out as gay. Bill is related to Hattie Thomas, who we believe is his daughter. Chris also seems to be married and had a daughter and also a son from his previous marriage.

Talking about Chris, he attended Poynton High School. He attended HMRC. About his job, he worked at Texas Homecare in stock control, SOUNDs at W.H. Smiths, Various Positions at J Sainsbury PLC, Porter at Grouville Bay Hotel, mailroom at holt Lloyd ltd, and Customer Assistant at Boots UK.

Fun Fact: Bill and Chris had a dog named Wilf Thomas.

Apart from his hobby of pottery making, Bill Thomas had a day job of working as a Learning Assistant at Scarborough Museums Trust. But coming back to pottery, in May 2020, Bill revealed that he made his first pottery (a dish) in a night of pottery evening class at Saddleworth School in October 1998. The school was run by local artist Russel Howarth. He revealed the story when Hattie (his alleged daughter) nominated him for 7 days pottery-post challenge on his Facebook.

But, Bill revealed that it was only in December 2019, he sold his potteries for the first time since he started making one. He captioned the post, “First time I’ve ever sold any of my pots! Thanks, Dawn and Lily. Weird to see my babies going to a new home.”

Back in March 2020, Bill was taking pottery classes again at what appears to be Middleport Pottery at Clay Stoke College. He posted a few pictures of the place, the studio he practiced at, and his tutor Brian Dickinson.
