Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Demi Engemann is married to Demi Engemann. Their relationship and marriage had people rolling their eyes. But we can’t wrap up this season without learning about Bret’s age, job, and first wife along with other details.
So, here is a short bio that covers it all.
The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives: Meet Bret Engemann, Demi Engemann Husband
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Demi Engemann is married to Bret Engemann. The couple exchanged their wedding vows on 3 April 2021. To announce her nuptial, Bret shared, “I married my best friend today. I’m officially the luckiest man in human history. I love you forever, @demilucymay 4/3/21…….to infinity.”
Even though they have a 16-year age gap, the couple has a strong bond. They met for the first time when Demi was just eleven years old and Bret was twenty-six. They were just friends then, but in 2020, they got back in touch and began dating.
But now that the show has put her in the public eye, fans are realizing that Bret was just 25 when he made those remarks, and it makes them uncomfortable. In a series of TikTok videos, Demi revealed how she met Bret at the beginning of 2023.
“There has been a lot of controversy around our relationship, and the fact that we got into a relationship very quickly after my divorce and that we have pretty significant age gaps and that he’d been married a couple of times before me,” Demi said. “So, if you don’t know, my husband and I are 16 years apart and I knew him through a family friend growing up. He was so much older than me. When I was 9 years old, he was married to his first wife and having babies.”
Demi explained that, despite the fact that they were frequently at the home of a family friend, she didn’t “think” that she and Bret had ever met when she was younger.
“Needless to say, I was very aware of his existence,” Demi continued. “I just thought he was so cute, like an innocent little girl crush.”
Demi discovered that Bret had following her on Instagram when she turned eighteen. She was dating her now ex-husband at the time, but they were “on a break.” Bret was the “star of their hometown” in Utah, and Demi claimed to be “star-struck” since she had “had a crush” on him her entire life.
After divorcing his first spouse, Bret wed a second woman six months later. After only “five or six months,” the couple’s marriage failed, and Demi claimed to have been “just single for a while.” Demi was expecting their first kid at the time she married Blake, her first husband. Blake and Demi proposed that Bret apply to be cast on The Bachelorette as they knew each other through shared contacts and because he was unmarried.
Despite Bret’s objections, Demi and Blake applied privately on his behalf. He was chosen for The Bachelorette season with Clare Crawley, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to return home.
The star of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives eventually gave birth to a daughter, but it negatively impacted her and Blake’s marriage. She claimed that their divorce was eventually caused by her having to deal with anxiety and postpartum depression following the birth. After he discovered a modeling opportunity for Demi’s young daughter, Maude, Bret contacted her, sparking a flurry of correspondence between the two.
They decided to meet up. Their chemistry was undeniable.
“It was like a movie,” Demi explained.
Demi explained that at the time, she was still “mourning” her breakup with Blake, so she was taken aback by how strongly she felt about Bret. Before their official date, they had to wait two and a half months, but most people were unaware that Demi and Blake were divorcing.
Furthermore, Bret had not disclosed to The Bachelorette’s producers that he would not be participating in the show. The same evening, photos of Demi and Bret’s date were released to the media, leading to Bret being criticized by Clare for “being on a date with a girl from his hometown” and Demi being called a cheater.
Demi temporarily ended her relationship with Bret due to the aftermath, but she later “went crawling back” and the two started dating. A decade of months afterward, Bret proposed.

Who Are Bret Engemann Parents?
Bret Engemann is the son of Paul Karl and the late Geraldine ‘Gerri’ Engemann. His mother Gerri was born on June 21, 1934, in Driggs, Idaho. Gerri completed her eighth-grade education at Orland Elementary School.
When she was in the ninth grade, her parents were divorced, and she and her mother relocated to the San Francisco Bay area, where there were more chances for practical nurses. Gerri was very well-liked and accomplished in drama, music, voice, and other subjects at Balboa High School, where she also received her diploma.
Gerri enrolled at Brigham Young University after high school graduation. She had a great and joyful freshman year at BYU. In the fall of 1953, she returned for her sophomore year and met Paul (Karl) Engemann, the man who would become her husband. Paul had just registered at BYU using points he had accrued from his time in the U.S. Army, and he had just received a G.I. Bill.
After marrying in June 1954, Karl put his attention on getting a degree, so Gerri started working as a secretary for Dr. Hyrum Babcock, the principal of the BYU Training School on the lower campus, and as a bookkeeper for Nate Morgan Jewelers. The historical building was later beautifully renovated and is now known as the Provo City Library.
In addition to providing session backup vocals for well-known recording artists like Elvis Presley, The Righteous Brothers, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Fankie Laine, Wayne Newton, and a host of undiscovered performers vying for fame and fortune, Gerri’s vocal work included soundtracks for motion pictures, television shows, radio and television commercials.
Ray Conniff invited Gerri to become a featured vocalist and record and tour with his Ray Conniff Singers, offering her the opportunity to sing duets with Ray. She traveled to several nations and performed at the White House as a result of her work with Ray. She also regarded the two worldwide tours she did as a professional high point, in which she provided backing vocals for The Osmond Family.
Gerri played Mother Flinders in the original cast of the hugely popular musical Saturday’s Warrior, written by Doug Stewart and Lex de Azevedo, and toured with it for 2.5 years.
Sadly, she passed away on 13 February 2022.
