The remainder of the crew is new to the franchise, but Daisy and Gary are starting their fourth season with Captain Glenn.
Cloyce Martin On Below Deck Sailing Yacht
Cloyce Martin is one of the new cast members of season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
When Chef Cloyce revealed that his name was pronounced like “Rolls Cloyce,” it left a lasting effect. His brand of humor, he said, was “insanely dry sarcasm.” Cloyce described his charisma as “delicious,” even though he acknowledged it is an “acquired taste.” When each visitor ordered a distinct combination of surf-and-turf entrées on the first night of the charter season, his culinary prowess was instantly put to the test.
Cloyce, who had specifically requested that special orders be avoided, appeared to be buckling under the strain.
Season 5 of the show also featured Married to Medicine‘s Dr. Contessa Metcalfe who raved about her time as a co-primary charter guest. It turns out that she might have avoided certain aspects of her vacation, particularly Chef Cloyce Martin’s culinary selections and abilities.
After appearing on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Episodes 1 and 2, the doctor discussed her lunchtime problems in an exclusive interview with The Daily Dish. According to her, “There was a new chef — he is quite adorable — but his cooking skills left a little bit to the imagination.”
A few of the dishes Cloyce chose to offer likewise did not impress Contessa. “When we were presented with what I affectionately referred to as ‘children’s food,’ [I thought], I cook better than this for my three kids,” she chuckled. “But I heard he was new, so there were some growing pains.”
Contessa never felt the need to voice any complaints in light of this, and she still views the vacation as a pleasant experience.
“You never want to be that person who ruins the trip for everybody else by being a complainer. So, you know, we came for the view, we came for the scenery, we came for the experience,” Contessa explained. “And I would say of everything, probably the food was my least favorite part of the experience, but it was still a yacht, it was still the ocean, so no complaints.”
“We love to travel in style, so this was absolutely amazing,” Contessa explained further. “I’ve always wanted to go to Ibiza, and I had this belief in my heart that I was kind of approaching the age of being too old to go, so it was nice to kind of be able to do it in an elegant fashion, so to speak. Because when we go on vacation, we believe in really letting your hair down.”
Fortunately, she and her companions were able to accomplish just that. “Being catered to every moment of every day, it was just an exquisite experience from the moment we stepped on the yacht,” said the Contessa. “It was just luxury, from the beginning to the end.”
Drama broke out in the galley between Cloyce and Daisy Kelliher when the chef’s counts for who ordered what entrée were wrong, as viewers witnessed during the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 premiere. Contessa fortunately told The Daily Dish that she and the other guests “didn’t know” about the on-set controversy.
Daisy had a rough start to Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 when chef Cloyce Martin and the Parsifal III chief cook got into a violent fight over the first dinner service. Daisy revealed more information on what specifically went wrong during that tumultuous supper in an exclusive interview with The Daily Dish. Fans may remember Cloyce telling Daisy in the Season 5 opener, which aired on October 7, that he would prefer not to accept specific meal requests from visitors. Daisy, however, inadvertently served the entire set of charter guests their preferred dinners.
Looking back on that moment today, Daisy told The Daily Dish, “I kind of cringe watching that.”
“I felt really bad,” Daisy admitted. “But it’s hard because boats are like somebody’s house. You don’t come into somebody’s house — like if I invite you for dinner — and start telling me what you want. It doesn’t work like that, and it certainly doesn’t work like that on a boat. So, I should have been more discreet, but I thought they knew that’s how it worked, and they didn’t, and that was my fault.”
Daisy, however, maintains that Cloyce ought to have cooked the food properly in spite of the ordering error.
“If he says he can do it, then I expect him to be able to do it,” she said. “So that’s kind of on him. But yeah, that whole interaction was really hard to watch because I did feel really bad, and I felt kind of responsible. And that was probably quite hard for him to start the season in that way. But I think I was right about my inhibitions about him.”
