Meet Crystal Williams, One Of The Dancers Suing Lizzo
Three former dancers who were a part of Lizzo’s dance squad are suing her on the grounds that they were harassed and worked in a hostile environment. Her production business Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. (BGBT), and a person referred to as the “dance cast captain” are also named as defendants in the complaint, which was filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by CNN through an attorney for the plaintiffs.
The Grammy winner was accused of weight-shaming by Noelle Rodriguez, Arianna Davis, and Crystal Williams, who also said they were coerced into touching a nudist at an Amsterdam strip club. The filing states that the trio also accuse the Truth Hurts hitmaker of allegedly “inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers,” inside the club.
NBC News quotes Ron Zambrano, the three dancers’ attorney, as saying, expressed, “The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly.”
He continued, “While privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing.”
Crystal was the first to lose her job a few days after the Amsterdam incident. The dancer submitted a demo reel in response to Lizzo’s social media casting requests for dancers.
She told her alma mater: “I thought maybe this is a sign. I did my video submission and everything, I put together a little montage video. My mass comm degree really popped out with that one because it was a nice audition video, I had two different slides going on while I was talking about myself.”
Instead of continuing the audition process through the reality show, Crystal started dancing for the pop artist as soon as she was cast in the Emmy-winning TV series Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.
Speaking about touring, Crystal said: “It’s really fun to travel to different places in other parts of the world because I was only restricted to seeing Texas. I’m just happy to experience this because I didn’t know that this was a thing for anybody like me, so it’s definitely a blessing.”

In the fifth grade, Crystal Williams’ church’s praise squad, which incorporated stomp components, launched her dancing career. She then entered dance studios and joined the drill teams at her school. Dancing was a way to blow off steam and express herself through dynamic movement after a tough day at school.
Crystal has since continued to dance with her school’s drill teams and at dance facilities off-campus. Lizzo’s former dancer eventually traveled to Sam Houston State University to pursue a degree in mass communication. She believed at the time that she had to keep her love of dance separate from her professional ambitions. She also believed that because her body type is not frequently seen on national stages, pursuing a career in dance would be extremely difficult or unlikely.
Crystal majored in mass communications while she was a student at SHSU because she thought it would open up a lot of doors and help her find a job she was enthusiastic about. She was a part of numerous groups, such as the NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the Black Student Alliance, and its umbrella project, the Freshman Project. She continued to pursue dance through an on-campus group called Fade to Black.
Crystal won the Ms. Black and Gold Pageant held by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. during her first year of college, and she later competed in the Miss Sam Houston Pageant during her junior year. Even though she came in second place in her second pageant, she believed it was still necessary to compete and demonstrate to people who look like her that they are also attractive and deserving of a pageant.
