Meet Mark Chavez, Dr Charged In Matthew Perry’s Death
A San Diego physician named Mark Chavez was charged with Matthew Perry’s death. According to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, the investigation into Matthew Perry’s death revealed a vast underground criminal network, which included San Diego physician Mark Chavez, that was in charge of providing the actor with substantial doses of ketamine.
Court records show that La Jolla doctor Mark, who had previously operated a ketamine clinic, acknowledged providing ketamine to Santa Monica-based physician Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who repeatedly gave the ‘Friends’ actress anesthetic injections. He admitted to using the identity of an unaware former patient to file a fake prescription to obtain the medication from his previous clinic.
Mark sold Dr Salvador Plasencia the ketamine he had previously obtained by forging a fake prescription. Salvador then sold the drug to Kenneth Iwamasa, Matthew’s personal assistant, who confessed to injecting the star three times on the day of his death. In addition, Mark, who had owned and operated a ketamine clinic, obtained extra ketamine from a wholesale distributor of banned narcotics and made false claims on paperwork regarding its intended use and non-saleability.
“Dr. Plasencia and Dr. Chavez violated the oath they took to care for their patients,” said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram. “Instead of do no harm, they did harm so that they could make more money.”
Additionally, Mark has previously consented to enter a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy involving the distribution of ketamine. According to the Medical Board of California, he is licensed in emergency medicine and possesses an active medical license with no documented disciplinary actions.
The following five individuals were taken into custody in relation to Perry’s demise: Erik Fleming, Kenneth Iwamasa, Salvador Plasencia, Mark Chavez, and Jasveen Sangha. The DEA characterized them as “greedy and reckless,” using Perry as a means of personal gain.
Three of them accepted plea agreements. Additionally, in a case that some experts predict would be difficult to win, the other two have entered a not-guilty plea.
