The news of his death was confirmed in a statement on the website of the 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa, California, where Siebert appeared frequently.
Charles started his career following journalism school at Marquette University and a stint in the U.S. Army in the 60s. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. After appearing in a number of regional theatre shows, Charles moved on to Broadway and off-Broadway roles.
Charles made his Broadway debut in Galileo (1967) and went on to star in a number of other New York productions, including “The Gingerbread Lady” (1970) with Tony winner Maureen Stapleton, “Sticks and Bones” (1972), and the 1974 revival of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” starring Elizabeth Ashley, in which he played Gooper.
He was also in the cast of Dustin Hoffman’s 1968 musical “Jimmy Shine.” Simultaneously, Charles was starring in daytime dramas such as “Search for Tomorrow,” “Another World,” and “As the World Turns” in New York.
