Texas Longhorn coach Chris Bread is married to his wife Leslie Beard who is allegedly a victim of domestic violence. Leslie, the alleged victim, and her husband tied the knot on 31 August 1996. Their 26 years long marriage has blessed them with three daughters: Avery, Ella, and Margo. The coach was arrested from his home after a woman accused him of “assault and strangulation” on 12 December. DailyMail confirmed that Chris was booked for third-degree assault at 4:18 am local time. He was charged with “Assault on family/household member impede breath circulation.”
He was posted a $10,000 bond and was subsequently released from Travis County Jail. An arrest affidavit is not currently available, according to the Travis County Clerk’s office. Beard’s attorney, Perry Minton, told the Austin American-Statesman that his client ‘is 100 percent innocent of these charges.’
“He should never have been arrested,” Minton told the newspaper. “The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed. It is truly inconceivable.”
After midnight, according to Austin police, they received a “disturbance hotshot” report, and officers were sent to Austin’s residential 1900 block of Vista Lane. On that street, Beard has a listed address. The department’s website defines a “hotshot call” as an “event that is now occurring [and] poses an imminent threat to life and/or public safety.”
With a record of 7-1, the Longhorns are now rated second overall in the Associated Press poll. On Monday night, they will visit Rice, an in-state foe. Beard left Texas Tech in 2021 and is now in his second season at Texas. The school also released a brief statement following the arrest: “The university is aware of the situation regarding Chris Beard. We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process.”
