Journey from Love on the Spectrum claims to be a lesbian. She once said, “You know, I never thought a man really ever looked that good.” Avani, Journey’s mother, quips, “Well, that’s embarrassing for them, isn’t it?” in response to Journey mentioning that she has seen boys express romantic interest in her in the past.
In the show, Journey goes on her first date to a park with a Wisconsin woman called Kara. After strolling around and picking dandelions, the women sit down to talk. Journey tells Kara that she has autism, and Kara is incredibly accepting. Journey was relieved because she had had bad experiences in the past when she revealed her illness. She related a story of an online conversation when she disclosed her autistic diagnosis, and the woman left her on read.
Journey gives Kara rose quartz jewelry during their date, and Kara returns the favor by giving Journey some baked strawberry jam cookies. Even though Journey claims that their first date was “really fun,” she tells Kara she’s not sure she wants to go on another one without explaining.
Additionally, Journey goes on two dates with Talia. They meet for the first time at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, and then they have a picnic on the waterfront while holding hands. Talia seems enamored with Journey, and she indicates desire in following her. But as the Season 2 conclusion makes clear, Journey and Talia’s romance never really took off.
