On the 2021 ABC show Escape from a House of Horror, Jordan and her older sister Jennifer Turpin recounted their experiences. Jordan revealed that watching Justin Bieber music videos in secret as a child gave her the desire to go to the outer world.
Her parents were detained by police while they conducted an investigation. Her parents had entered guilty pleas to many offenses last year, and they had been given life terms with the chance of release after 25 years. Horrifying facts about the degree of the children’s torture, abuse, and neglect—including being fed and tortured, tied to beds, and denied basic hygiene—began to surface after the arrests in January 2018.
The children said in deputies’ testimony that they were only permitted to take a shower once a year. With the exception of meals, which were now only served once a day—a combination of lunch and dinner—they were mostly kept in their quarters.
The siblings’ only food for years was two slices of bread spread with either bologna or peanut butter. Additionally, the couple was charged with making fun of their kids by giving them pie and other foods they weren’t allowed to eat. In front of them, the Turpin parents devoured fast food, shackling the kids to unclean beds in case they attempted to pilfer food.
David and Louise both received life sentences. The two later pleaded guilty to torture, dependent adult abuse, child endangerment, and false imprisonment.
