Ellen Davies Rush of San Francisco and Mr. Richard Stockton Rush Jr. of Westminster, Vermont are the parents of Stockton Rush’s parents. Stockton III has dedicated his life to exploring the sky and the water.
Years before he started Washington-based OceanGate in 2009, Stockton earned his jet transport rating at the age of 19 in 1981, becoming the youngest pilot in the world. Stockton holds a master’s in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and a degree in aerospace engineering from Princeton University. He created a Kittredge K-350 submersible, along with the Glasair III aircraft.
On June 18, five passengers boarded a submarine as they went on a tourist expedition to the wreck of Titanic. However, within an hour and a half the submarine lost contact. The expedition included OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, billionaire Hamish Harding, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son Suleman, and French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

Meet Ellen Davies Rush, OceanGate Stockton Rush Mother
OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush’s mother is named Ellen Davies Rush.
She is the daughter of Mrs. Louise Davies of San Francisco, for whom the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is named, and the late Mr. Ralph K Davies, chairman of the American President Lines, and of Deborah Brock Rush of Philadelphia. On a distant cattle ranch in Plumas County, Mrs. Davies was born in relative poverty. Louise’s mother moved with her and her three other kids when her parents got divorced, finally settling in Oakland, where Louise went to a Catholic boarding school.
Louise worked as a stenographer in Oakland for seven years, earning $25 a week, before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. There, she met a young businessman from Standard Oil who would become her husband.
In 1925, they got married.
Louise M. Davies, the San Francisco benefactor who gave the city she loved a $5 million concert hall in 1980, died on Monday at a retirement home in Portola Valley, Calif. She was 98.
Louise, whose husband, Ralph K. Davies, an oil millionaire, died in 1971, bestowed millions of dollars on many cultural, educational, and medical charities in the Bay Area, including the Exploratorium, the World Affairs Council, the Conservatory of Music, the University of San Francisco, Stanford University and the San Francisco Opera.
Ralph Davies rose to the rank of vice president of Standard Oil. But when the presidency eluded him, he left and formed his own oil company. He also ran American President Lines and the Natomas Company. In 1934 the couple bought 20 acres in Woodside, Calif., where in 1940 they built a magnificent house, which Mrs. Davies lived in until recent years.
Rush’s mother, Ellen Davies Rush, died before her mother, Louise Davies, according to the obituary. She was survived by her sister, Maryon Davies Lewis of San Francisco.
Meet R. Stockton Rush Jr, OceanGate Stockton Rush Father
OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush’s father R Stockton Rush Jr or Richard Stockton Rush Jr. is a businessman, actor, and entrepreneur. Stockton Jr. was born November 15, 1930, in Philadelphia.
Stockton Jr. was vice president and a longstanding member of the Bohemian Club. He graduated from Princeton University in 1953 and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955. He was a board member of Stockdale Oil and Gas. In the 1970s, he and his family moved to New Zealand to create Takaro, a hunting and fishing retreat with an emphasis on conservation. As founder, chairman, and executive director of the Recovery Institute, he was a leader in the field of alcoholism education.
Stockton Jr. established the Recovery Institute and had a prominent role in the education of alcohol abuse. He received theatrical acclaim for his portrayal of the frustrated executive officer in the prize-winning play, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial and he was pres.-elect of the famed Bohemian Club.
Stockton Jr. died on New Year’s Day at the age of 69 after a brief illness.
