Since both Peter Jon Lindberg and his wife Nilou Motamed share a passion for food and travel, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they first met on their job at Travel + Leisure magazine in 2000. At the time, Peter had been working as a “features director” for a year. Nilou then joined the company in August and took his position, and Peter got promoted to editor-at-large.
Dating for over 3 years, the duo then got married on September 15, 2003.
Fast forward almost 2 decades of marriage, the lovebirds were still in love more than ever. From vacation to Mexico to traveling around the world for their work, the duo was inseparable. And even on their days off; especially Sundays, Jon, and Nilou would mostly spend their time exploring markets and restaurants near their home as well as several other neighborhoods.
Talking about their daily routine, Peter shared that he woke up with the sun and got Nilou out of bed by 6:30. He then makes her a cup of tea while she catches up on those precious minutes — Nilou’s morning schedule included the issue of “The New York Times,” but the scene changed depending on the season.
During the summer, the couple sat on their stoop and watched people walk by while in winter they cuddled up on the living room sofa with a lit fire for a cozy morning read.
Surprisingly, the lovebirds shared no kids.

As for his education, Peter graduated from Harvard University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing, fine arts, and ethnomusicology. Yes! He’s into music as well.

Peter Jon Lindberg was born to parents, Judith and Gary Lindberg.
Recalling his family, Peter shared that they were the friendliest people in the neighborhood. His dad asked everyone to call him Gar. And even whenever Peter’s friends came over it was “Hi, Mrs. Lindberg. Hi, Gar.” They were that cool of a person.
Sadly, Gary has long passed away. He would have turned 82 on June 20, 2022.
Also, Peter’s maternal grandparents Ellen Edgar and Ted Halvorsen have long left this world. And so did his maternal uncle Jon Halvorsen — a retired journalist, world traveler, gourmet cook, and a scholar of all genres.
