Shanice Henderson was born to her parents, Jerry Henderson and Karla Mikkelson. They are her biggest fans and her number-one supporters. No wonder they were elated when their daughter was chosen to be a part of the exclusive Black Entrepreneurs cast on Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard to represent the Black community and to show Black Excellence.
Showing support, Shanice’s father Jerry took to his FB on March 30, 2023, to share the show’s trailer featuring his daughter.
The Summer House spinoff premiered on May 7, 2023, and it featured only Black entrepreneurs sharing space during the hottest months of the year. Obviously, this meant a lot of relationship drama, friendship scuffles, love triangles, and more!
“If you don’t know, Black excellence is Martha’s Vineyard, and Martha’s Vineyard is Black excellence,” a cast says in the trailer. And she couldn’t be truer. Martha’s Vineyard actually has a long history of hosting Black vacationers, and it was one of the first beach destinations where African Americans could vacation and purchase a property.
As the cameras roll on, viewers noticed that Shanice was really close with fellow female castmates Jasmine Cooper, Bria Fleming, and Jordan Emanuel. On top of that, the quintessential party girl’s search for her future husband was also quite intriguing to watch.
On camera, she said that she was healing from her last relationship and working through attachment issues. However, she also mentioned she has extremely high standards when it comes to dating. No wonder, she did not seem to have already met the one she was looking for at the time of writing this article. Or maybe she was just asked to not breathe a word.

Meet Karla Mikkelson, Shanice Henderson Mother
A Sioux Falls, South Dakota native, Karla Mikkelson is Shanice Henderson’s loving mother. She is the daughter of the late Lennis Sauvage, and the sister of Butch (married to Kim), Deb (married to Mike) Dunn, Patty Graeber (married to Daryl Alons), and Jeff Sauvage.
Sadly, her brother, Butch passed away on March 2, 2017, at the age of 59. He was a Sioux Falls, SD native who moved to Aberdeen and attended Central High School. There, he worked for Biegler Motors, as a truck driver for L&O Acres, and as a technician at Speedys TMA before beginning his 23-year career at Centennial Homes in 1994.
Reportedly, Butch began his career at Centennial Homes as a service technician and through his hard work and dedication worked his way to the Corporate Service Manager position, overseeing 7 locations in 3 states.
