Meet Sy Harris, Seinfeld Estelle Harris Husband
Seinfeld actress Estelle Harris was married to her husband Seymour “Sy” Harris. They met each other at a dance and they tied the knots six months after their first meeting.
According to her daughter’s Facebook post, Estelle married her husband in 1952. She was around 17 years old when she moved from her hometown in Pennsylvania to Brooklyn, New York. Shortly after, she met her husband Seymour and married him, and began raising her family.
Like many actors, she had struggled to find the balance between her career and her family life. But, she was always positive about her work experiences and open about her private life.
“I don’t think I’d have married if I was a young woman now,” she told The Spokesman-Review. “I did it to get away from home”.
She added further, “I wanted that, so I talked myself into being in love.” But, she loved her husband and stayed married to Sy until his death a year before. They were married for over 68 years.
In her Tribune profile, Estelle said she had complained to Larry David, the co-creator of “Seinfeld,” about her character’s constant yelling, but experience proved him right: “The more I yell, the more they laugh,” she said.
Estelle admitted that her personal life prepared her for the part. She told, “When my kids were younger, I yelled. The older they got, the more understanding I was. Now I yell at my husband, but he doesn’t mind. He’s grateful for the attention. He understands.”
Ms. Harris’s parents moved to the United States from middle Europe before World War I. Her father spent part of his youth in Britain. The family settled in Brooklyn and moved to Tarentum, Pa., outside Pittsburgh, when Ms. Harris was 5.
Sy shared three children with Estelle. In 1995, speaking with Chicago Tribune she shared, ‘”From infancy, my children always saw their mother on stage. I was either acting or at a rehearsal. My husband and I took turns babysitting. He has been very supportive and wonderful. We’ve been married for over 40 years.”
