Monza started his career in the 80s after getting his driver’s license. He mostly competed in clandestine street events. “We did some class racing here back in 2006 or so — it was called Mod Street We were racing Mustangs with Chevy motors in them. We won championships the first year we did it, and then we came back the next year and won the championship again.”
He had made himself the fastest racer in Oklahoma City in his days and slowly build himself up to the rank. Gradually, the Street Outlaws sensation became the most experienced and respected street racer in the country. Moreover, he had no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
He had said, “I’m going to do it until I feel I’m not competitive anymore. I may be 60 years old out here doing this. I don’t know.”
The reality star acquired his name from his early years of street racing when he drove a 1975 Chevy Monza which was #1 on the list multiple times. Back in the day, he used to race 972 split bumpers Z/28 Camaro. “It’s kind of my dream car, ” he shared. “I’ve always liked the ’70 to ’73 Rally Sport split-bumper Cameros. I wanted one as a kid but I could never afford one. I finally came across this one six or seven years ago.”
He added more, “I got it from Dominator off the show — it was just an old shell, basically, and we built it up. Squirrels were living in the thing when we picked it up. It was a bare hull, and we took a true 1972 split-bumper Camaro RS and tuned it into a race car. Some folks think I’m stupid for doing that instead of just going for a tube chassis deal, but I was building it for street racing.”
Monza has been messing with cars his whole life. He had his hands on different projects such as ’68 El Camino, a ’70 Nova, a ’71 Challenger, and a few others. He joined ‘Street Outlaws’ in 2013 has once been nicknamed “King of the streets.”

Monza added that whatever Jerry does with his car his son is always there. The father-son duo recruited Manny Alvarez from HPP Racing too who helped in tuning. In 2019, Monza shared with AMSOIL, that Brandon is one of the key cogs for Team Monza.
He explained, “Back in, say, 2005 when we built the Monza, it was all knobs and timers in the car. Now this car you don’t do anything to it without breaking a laptop out. That’s where my boy comes in. I’m kind of a computer dummy. What I don’t know how to do the pick it up fast, so we make a really good team.”
