50-year after his mother won a gold medal skiing at the Winter Olympics in Japan, Ryan Cochran-Siegle won silver in the super-G alpine event in Beijing on 8 February 2022. The Skier of Team USA blasted to a second-place finish, just 0.04 seconds behind Matthias Mayer of Austria. Ryan, 29 years old at this time, comes from a sports dynasty that has sent a total of six athletes to the Winter Games, including his mother, 1972 gold medalist Barbara Cochran. Meanwhile, fans being fans, proud of the way he skied that day, have been wondering about the lady in his life. Ryan, born in Burlington, Vermont, as you know is an American World Cup alpine ski racer and a member of the Skiing Cochrans family. He learned to ski at around the age of two. (Of course) it was his mother, being taught by his mother, a gold medalist herself, who taught him the game.
Today, he specializes in giant slalom and super-G, and also races downhill and combined. He made his World Cup debut in and at the Winter Olympics in 2018.
In 2013, Ryan felt some serious setback when he suffered injuries to his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments during the downhill portion of the combined at the World Championships. However, even then Ryan recovered quickly and carefully and returned to the game in the 2014 season.
Fast forward to today, when Ryan is not doing his sports, he is working at his family’s maple syrup shop, Cochran’s Slopeside Syrup.
