Leila Abeni Jackson, Ketanji Brown Jackson’s younger daughter, attended her mother’s supreme court confirmation hearing. The Supreme Court nominee’s daughter sat near her sister who donned a black printed dress and matching black mask, while she was clothed in a lavender suit.
Until recently, Leila and Talia had remained unidentified for most of their lives. Talia, in particular, isn’t much of a Jackson girl. However, we do know that she is Ketanji Brown Jackson’s younger daughter from her marriage to Patrick G. Jackson. Ketanji has referred to her two daughters as her “pillars of success,” and they have played a significant role in their mother’s ascension.
During the hearing, Ketanji took a moment to address her two daughters. She said, “Girls, I know it has not been easy as I have tried to navigate the challenges of juggling my career and motherhood. And I fully admit that I did not always get the balance right. But I hope that you have seen that with hard work, determination, and love, it can be done. I am so looking forward to seeing what each of you chooses to do with your amazing lives in this incredible country.”
Their father Patrick also sobbed tears of joy when Ketanji addressed him and appreciated his presence by her side for 25 years.

Despite her mother’s high-profile work and celebrity, she has established a name for herself at school. She is a multi-award-winning poet who has participated in a variety of events and competitions.

In 2021, Leila became the winner of the Parkmont Poetry Festival for her poem Pink Sundress. In her bio, she stated that her favorite author is Elizabeth Acevedo, her dream for the future was to “spend my life doing something I love and I want to be as happy as I can, as often as I can.”

After Justice Antonin Scalia died, Leila wrote a letter to the president recommending her federal judge-mom for a Supreme Court vacancy when she was 11 years old. In a 2017 speech, Ketanji discussed her daughter’s letter.
