Meet Alex Belew, Hell’s Kitchen Season 21 Winner
Alex Belew joined the 21st installment of Hell’s Kitchen alongside eighteen new chefs in Los Angeles. In the first two eps, he was the second contestant from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay, going up against Ileana, and receiving a perfect five. In ep three, he was the final person from the blue team to have their attempt judged during the Whole Lobster Prep Challenge and get the dish accepted.
Likewise, in the fourth ep, he and Alejandro made the chicken sliders winning them the challenge 16-14. Thereafter, Alex was on the roll nailing the challenges one after the other, never being nominated for elimination.
Then, for the semi-final task, Alex did a double dredge on his chicken, presented his prawn fritters with jalapenos and chives, coated Carolina Gold rice congee with miso-cured salmon, and made pan-seared New York striploin with farrotto, charred cabbage, and parmesan. He won the challenge 46-46-45 and was named the second finalist alongside Dafne Mejia.
Ultimately, Alex then turned to his Southern roots to help construct his winning menu which consisted of — Appetizers: Snapper Crudo, Prawn Fritters, Butter-Poached Warm Prawn Salad, and Butternut Squash Risotto; Entrées: Chicken Two Ways, Miso Salmon, NY Strip, and Herb-Crusted Lamb Chops; and Dessert: Strawberry-Apple Crisp, Butterscotch Budino.
Also, he believed in his team and his faith was rewarded. Being crowned the winner of Hell’s Kitchen, Alex won the Executive Chef position at the Hell’s Kitchen restaurant at Caesars Atlantic City with a salary of $250,000.
After the win, Alex was uncertain as to what would happen with his Executive Chef position at Hell’s Kitchen, but he surely wanted to continue a relationship with Gordon in some form.
Where Is Alex Belew Now?
Now, as of February 2023, a year after the filming wrapper, Alex Belew has been doing several things. With pop-ups, content creations, brand partnerships, and more, the chef has been busy trying to organically grow his brand. He believed that when people recognises him as the victor, the contracts will be flooding his way. “And so, I’ve spent a lot of time reading, researching, spending time with my kids, traveling a little bit, doing some dinners. It’s been a year, that’s how it’s gone,” he added.
Also, Alex is now realizing his dream of taking his family on a vacation. Up until his victory, his children have never been on a plane, and his wife and he had only been on one vacation since 2008.
Lastly, he’s taking the advice he got from the world-renowned chef to his heart — Never let anything get in your way. “I think just as people, we get kicked, we get put down, and we fail, and a lot of people just give up. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that the unsuccessful people just aren’t willing to do the things that the successful are,” he explained.

Alex Belew Family
Alex Belew hinted that he comes from a family without a father, and that put him at a “disadvantage in many things.” So, for those who don’t have the joy of having a father that loved them or helped guide them, he implores them to find a mentor or advisor that is older and wiser and is willing to spend time with them.
But though Alex wished for a father’s love, he was happy to be blessed with a beautiful mother, Donna C Belew. She turned 69 in June 1953.
Trivia: Alex’s maternal grandmother, Lavada Carlton, passed away on June 5, 2018, at the age of 95.
How Much Is Alex Belew Net Worth?
Alex Belew garnered a net worth of under $1 million by 2023.
Growing up in the South, where food is the heart of the home, Alex spent many weekends in his grandmother’s kitchen in Rover, helping her make buttermilk biscuits and boiled custard. So, to continue his passion, Alex joined The Art Institute of Tennessee in Nashville and graduated with Honors with a Culinary Arts degree.
Thereafter, Alex spent years learning, self-teaching, and working in some of the top kitchens in Nashville before stepping away from the commercial kitchen in 2012 to instruct high school students at Blackman High School. After three years, he then returned to the cooking business and even went on to win local and regional culinary competitions throughout the South.
In 2018, he then finally opened his own restaurant called Dallas & Jane. Sadly when the 2020 pandemic hit, they had to close the restaurant, but little did he know that he had close the restaurant indefinitely.
Someday, Alex would love love to still work with Gordon in some capacity and love to do more media — maybe cooking or a music show. In fact, the chef’s halfway there as he now has his own podcast.
