A Munich, Germany native, Rudi was a graduate of Penn State University (1948) who started as a claims adjuster in 1949 and rapidly rose through the ranks to President and Chief Operating Officer of Kemper Insurance — a position he held until his retirement in 1987. He was a decorated World War II Veteran, serving in the European and African Theaters, including the Battle of the Bulge.

This led to many years of catering, developing recipes, and teaching cooking and baking classes. Ultimately, she found herself traveling around journaling her culinary stories for a radio show.

When Amy’s not at her job, she’s still traveling around fueling her lifelong interest in regional foods and culinary traditions. So far, she’s been to many parts of the U.S., Japan, England, and  Switzerland.
