Colin Allred grew up in a single-parent family. He saw his mother struggle to earn a living. Thus, he knew he had to be at his best if they were ever to see better days. Well, the job’s done! Colin is now the Democratic representative for the 32nd Congressional District in Dallas, Texas, and has announced his run for US Senate 2024. But who are Colin’s parents? Who Are Colin Allred Parents?
Colin Allred didn’t like talking about his parents; especially his father. However, he did reveal that he’s indebted to his mother Judith Allred who raised him all on her own!
One reason why the congressman is aiming for the stars is also to give his mother a life she never had. And for this, Colin’s been working hard ever since he was a kid.
Born and raised in North Dallas, Colin was class president at Hillcrest High School and earned a full-ride football scholarship to Baylor University. In 2005, he then earned his B.A. in History and planned to go to law school. However, he got drafted by NFL and played as a linebacker for the next five seasons before sustaining a career-ending injury.
Thus, he returned to school to pursue his law degree at the University of California, Berkeley and got his J.D. in 2014. Thereafter, he started his career in politics working in the General Counsel’s office for the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Obama Administration. He also became a Civil Rights attorney for the Perkins Coie law firm working as a voting rights litigator and counsel to political candidates and advocacy organizations.
Wanting to do more, Colin then returned to his hometown Dallas and challenged longtime Republican Congressman Pete Sessions for his seat. In 2018, he finally defeated Pete finally becoming United States Representative for the 32nd Congressional District.
So, as a Representative, Colin dedicated his life to helping North Texas families gain the same opportunities he had to fulfill his dreams. His top priorities in Congress were working to lower healthcare costs, protecting Medicare and Social Security, and creating an economy that works for everyone.
Now, to give people more, he’s announced his run for US Senate 2024.
Meet Judith Allred, Colin Allred Mother
Judith Allred is Colin Allred’s mother. She was born in Oct 1946 and spent most of her life as a teacher in Dallas public schools. To be precise, she taught children for 27 years — in school or private tutoring.
“My mom worked so hard. At night, we’d go to Homework Hotline. She’d tutor kids to make extra money. But it felt like it was never enough to make ends meet,” Colin recalled.
No wonder, the congressman often sang words of praise about her. “To my mom, my aunt, and all the mothers, caregivers, and loved ones who make all the difference in the world: Happy #MothersDay,” he made an IG post on Mother’s Day 2023.
Also, Colin acknowledged that his mother’s job was hard and he’s grateful to her for never giving up. “My mom was a public school teacher so I know how important teachers are to this community. We must invest in them, and that’s why I secured federal funding for @dallascollegetx to help train the next generation of educators,” he wrote.
Besides being a teacher, Judith is also a fighter and a survivor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer — which she beat to the ground! This was also why Colin prioritized bipartisan legislation to increase access to diagnostic tests for cancer
As for her ethnicity, Judith is English. She was born to her parents, Opie D. Gabriel “Gabe” Allred and Wilda Gertrude “Gertie” Roberts.
What Do We Know About Colin Allred Father?
Colin Allred never knew his father. So, he knows the struggles of a child growing up without a dad. But Colin doesn’t resent him. Instead, he thanks his father for the lessons and the promises he made to himself that when he became a dad he would be there for his kids.
The congressman’s now a loving husband and father to two young boys. He also proudly became the first member of Congress to take paternity leave and is a passionate supporter of paid family leave for every American.
Another reason why Colin had no hard feelings for his dad is that he had YMCA counselors, teachers, and coaches who looked out for him while growing up. “I’ve met so many dedicated fathers and father figures in my time working for North Texas. Today, I wish all the dads and father figures of the 32nd District of Texas a happy Father’s Day. We are thankful for your support and appreciate your contributions to our community,” he wrote on Father’s Day 2020.
Besides his mentors from YMCA, Colin also received critical assistance from his maternal aunt and paternal uncle.
