So, this time around, Chris left the station altogether after having fun talking to WBEE listeners for 10 long years. Fortunately, for his loyal listeners, Chris left WBEE Rochester’s morning show for his own venture. Chris has said he will be doing a new online-only show focused more on comedy.

On 12 May 2023, Chris Konya posted on Facebook “Even though the 4 a.m. alarm was tough, it’s been fun, WBEE listeners. I was told today that yesterday was my last show, so I’ll see you around this summer.” And only then did his fans come to know of his departure from WBEE Rochester Exit.
Chris joined the WBEE morning team in 2020 but spent six years with them before that in varied roles. His departure, apparently, had been planned since March, when it was first announced, and coincided with the end of his contract with the station. Chris’s other co-host, Terry Clifford, also retired from the station after 30 years with them around that time.
Meanwhile, the Audacy Country 92.5 WBEE Rochester has not been done seeking two people to join its Morning Coffee Club, rumors have been saying.
Chris Konya New Job
After leaving WBEE Rochester Exit, Chris Konya has been promoting a new show called The Gill Lane Show. He promised the show won’t be exactly the same. He seemed to be hoping to attract the same mass of people who listened to him on the radio.
About his new show, Chris has said — while this show is much different than the last, he hopes it can be somewhat of a guilty pleasure for his listeners. He said it is a project that was built from the ground up without corporate oversight.
So, on The Gill Lane Show Chris has said with his co-hosts Bill Parker and Chris “Mo” Novellino he will be exploring the world’s most interesting topics.
Chris loves podcasting and therefore owns the Rochester Podcast Network in Rochester, New York. He also is a plumber with his other company, Thunder Drain.
Chris Konya Career
Chris Konya started his radio career in the promotions department at 95.5 WPLJ. After months of setting up promotions, driving the station vehicles, and helping with contesting, he was encouraged to apply for the rarely vacant associate producer role for “Scott and Todd in The Morning”. He was offered the job, accepted the role, and spent a year waking up close to midnight so he was able to make the last train of the night into New York City to get to the studio in time to be a part of one of the biggest morning radio shows in the country.
His love for entertainment grew from there. He began looking for positions that offered on-air responsibilities and when an opening came up in Rochester, New York he took it. He packed his car and moved up to Buffalo Bills country in 2013 and has not looked back. When he came on board, The BEE Morning Coffee Club was slipping in the ratings due to the abrupt loss of one of their long-time members. He loves to share this story that with enthusiastic cohosts and the new elements he introduced to the show, it went back to the top spot almost immediately.

Who Are Chris Konya’s Parents?
Both Chris Konya’s parents are no more.
His father Gregory “Greg” Wayne Konya who died at 52 on 3 May 2020 was a long-time resident of Edison, New Jersey. He was then survived by his wife Loretta “Sissy” Parsons Konya who also passed away later.
Gregory was a skilled carpenter and proud union ironworker who always boasted about attending over 100 Grateful Dead shows. He enjoyed telling stories, watching the N.Y. Giants, and visiting his favorite restaurants and bars in Del Ray Beach, Florida, and Ocean City, Maryland. He also was a proud member of the Italian American Club in Edison, New Jersey.
Besides Chris, Nicholas “Nick” Konya also is the son of the late Gregory and Loretta. Nick reached the age of 33 in June 2023.
What’s more, on his social media, Chris has also more than once mentioned a stepfather Efstratios Steve Karasoulis. One can tell he is really fond of him. Just on 21 February 2023, Chris wrote “If I was ever able to help you with plumbing it’s thanks to this guy! Happy Birthday, Dad” to him. Before, on 22 June 2022, Chris also wished him on Father’s Day saying “Happy Father’s Day to my stepdad (Dad) Efstratios.”

Chris Konya was not already married as of June 2023. However, he has been happily engaged to beautiful Meredith Opitz since 27 November 2020. Around that time, Chris revealed to his coworkers on WBEE that he got engaged and then explained the story. And later, all of it recorded he shared in the “We Got Engaged!” video on his YouTube channel.
So, Chris’s fiancee Meredith Opitz has been the full-time account supervisor at Dixon Schwabl + Company since September 2021. She turned 36 in 2023.
On her IG @meredithopitz, Meredith often lengthily writes about her and Chris’s relationship. She almost always appreciates him for making their lives easy, and for making her fall in love with you every single morning, over and over again, among other things.
