Actor Al Brown passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. It was his daughter who first revealed the cause of his death before adding that he loved his fans and was always happy to stop and chat with anyone who might’ve recognized him from the show over the years.

Also, his talent manager Michael confirmed the news on the late actor’s official Facebook page. “I am sad to let you know that angels came for Al yesterday morning, Friday, January 13, 2023. May his memory be a blessing to his family, his friends, and each of you. This page will remain as a testimony to Al’s work and love for his fans.”

In the post, Jennifer also mentioned that she was happy to see all the complimentary posts about her father — especially thanks to her niece who found “so many nice/funny posts about him on Reddit.”

“He always wanted to be an actor. Always. Since he was 6 years old. He never gave up on his dream. It helps to read your posts as I am on this roller coaster of grief. My dad was something special. And I’m so happy he made so many people happy doing what he loved,” she added.

As for his son, Tim Brown is Physical Education Teacher (PE Teacher) at Woodrow Wilson High School and Ketcham Elementary School. He also used to be a Physical education teacher at the Department of Education And Knowledge and Northwood Academy Charter School.

Talking about his education, Tim graduated from Ohio University with a Master of Athletic Administration degree in 2014. Also, he’s attended Central Bucks High School West and the University of South Carolina.

In 2023, he lived in Ashburn, Virginia with his wife and their lovely son. Prior to that, he also resided in Las Vegas, Nevada; Key West, Florida; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Amongst them, Al will be always best known for his role on the hit HBO show, The Wire, where he portrayed the crooked Baltimore Police Department official “Col. Stan Valchek.” His character would often impede the investigations of officers looking into the corruption and drug trade on the waterfront with the dock workers.

The actor announced his official retirement from acting on Nov. 1, 2022, just a few months before his death.

Besides being an actor and a writer, Al Brown also worked in “Emergency Preparedness Community Relations” at the US EPA for 14 years. There, he built a newsletter circulation from some 300 to over 35,000 readers and managed and directed an annual conference that grew from 40 attendees to about 1500.

Also, before that, he served in the United States Air Force for over 2 decades — serving two tours in Vietnam. From Dec 1972 to August 1990, he was “Director of Personnel/Public Affairs Officer” at the PA Air National Guard, and from January 1990 to July 1992, he was a Deputy Commander (Reserve) at Joint Military Postal Activity.

As for his education, Al attended Denison University from 1957 to 1960. He then left the college in his junior year to become an actor, joining LaSalle University for a BA in Theater. However, after graduating in 1964, life had other plans for him, and he went on to join the military instead.
