Alexa Santos, a home cook from Fort Lauderdale, takes the stage at the beginning of Hulu’s new reality series “Secret Chef,” which is set in a silent room without any appliances, ovens, or competitors. A huge conveyor belt divides the space, and as it begins to move, a metal cake dome emerges from the darkness.
When Santos lifts the lid, she finds a single egg as her first mystery ingredient and a message revealing her pseudonym, “Chef Bologna.” She and the other participants in the isolated area are given an hour to prepare their greatest egg dish.
The contestants in this binge-worthy series, produced by David Chang (Netflix’s “Ugly Delicious”), compete for a $100,000 grand prize while cooking in what the show refers to as an “underground cooking facility” throughout the course of the following ten episodes, which will premiere in their entirety on June 29. Everyone is given a separate kitchen and fictitious names, and as part of blind tastings, everyone is required to evaluate the food prepared by others.
Of course, Alexa can’t reveal whether she won the competition. Chef Bologna chatted with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel about her grind as a food content creator, living with parents who worked in South Florida restaurants, and how she would spend the grand prize.
Meet Alexa Santos, Chef Bologna On Secret Chef
Alexa Santos talked with Florida Sun Sentinel and described the experience on Chef Bologna On Secret Chef as like “Alice In Wonderland but so much scarier.” The influencer chef shared that being on the set was “wild”.
She explained that she went on a set with nine strangers with different culinary backgrounds. Each other gets an alias and rates the other’s skills.
Alexa described the show as, “It’s a mind game in that sense, trying to figure out how to judge completely objectively. I’m very excited to see how this thing looks to the outside viewer because the concept is so new.”
She and the other contestants felt like they were on the set of Squad Game. She shared, “I was like, “It’s ‘Squid Game’ but with cooking! I was like, what are they gonna do to us? We would hear these dinging noises that tell us to walk into another room. You never know what’s going to be there.”
Alexa was a senior producer for another food media company. She got approached by the casting associate, and added, “I didn’t know I was going to get it, but I did have some credentials.” She added, “When the show started, I had maybe 17,000 followers on Instagram. In a period of about six weeks, while we were filming the show, I went from 17,000 to 100,000 followers on Instagram as my reels took off.”
So, she is not allowed to share who won the show but if she wins the $100K, she is planning to take a legitimate vacation and pay a video editor to help her.

An influencer and recipe creator for a food media company, Santos posts easy and approachable dishes on her social media accounts, from toasted avocado squares and baked eggs to asparagus prosciutto and grilled cheese garlic bread.
After the show, she got back from a content creation trip in Asia, but currently, she is juggling some content creation deadlines for brands that she submit recipes for and for my Instagram and TikTok, @alexawhatsfordinner.
Alexa works from home and makes my own schedule, which is nice, but it also puts me in more of a 24-7 mindset where everything she does is about making food content for my pages. It’s nice to have that fire under your butt, to know that every piece of content she doesn’t put out into the world is a lottery ticket she didn’t buy.
