Netflix’s Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King premiered on March 30, 2022, and it followed Ali Mousavi’s story about how he lost all his life savings.
It was 2018 when Ali moved into the field of artificial intelligence and as a way of making some more money through cryptocurrency, he used QuadrigaCX as the exchange platform. Reportedly, he had invested around $70 thousand (saving + some loan) at the time. And when he didn’t receive his money back even after the promised date, he started to dig around.
In Jan 2019, after the CEO of QuadrigaCX, Gerald ‘Gerry’ Cotten’s death was announced, big investors like Tong Zou and QCXINT also got worried and wanted to find out where their money was. So, Ali joined the Telegram group (a group of internet sleuths dedicated to following the money trail) and in the process, he learned about Gerry’s past.
In short, Gerry had used the money to make risky trades, and eventually lost a large chunk of it.
While some investors then accepted that their money was gone for good, a few claimed that Gerry faked his death to keep the money to himself. So, with some shreds of hope Ali contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to urge them to investigate the possibility.
Unfortunately, the investigation didn’t go very far. The police concluded that Gerry simply gambled away his customers’ money apart, meanwhile, also using it to fund his lavish lifestyle.
“I might give up my dream and take a job I don’t want because of the financial damage that has been done,” Ali shared in an interview in 2019.

Ali Mousavi today (as of 2022) is the co-owner of EBITDA AI which he founded in August 2019. His CA-based company worked closely with other organizations to leverage Artificial Intelligence to increase their EBITDA. (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization)
Also, he is currently working as an artificial intelligence advisor at Startup Starter for over 2.
As for the money Ali lost on QuadrigaCX, it was almost as good as gone. However, the computer expert certainly was thinking about suing EY (Ernst & Young) for negligence, but he was probably just looking at around 5-10% possibly being returned.
