Anthony Redding Criminal History
Back in 2005, Anthony Redding who was age 16, at the time, pleaded guilty last week to the felony charges of cocaine possession and conspiracy to distribute the drug. He was sentenced to two to five years in jail, all suspended on probation. He was also given credit for time he has spent in jail for lack of bail since his arrest in May.
The terms of Anthony’s probation included that he be released from jail to take part in a residential drug treatment program in New York. He and his co-defendants were arrested in May following a one-month investigation by the Rutland City Police narcotics unit into crack cocaine trafficking between Rutland and upstate New York, according to court records. According to court documents, an informant in May led police to Richard J. Messina, 35, who admitted that for about a month he sold crack cocaine in the Rutland area for Miller and Anthony in exchange for drugs for his own use.
Richard said he sold crack to between five and 10 customers daily, while Richard and Miller dealt directly with only a few customers, a police affidavit stated. Police said shortly after questioning Richard they arrested Miller and Anthony in a city parking lot where they had been watching the pair for three hours.
Officers said a search of Anthony revealed several pieces of crack cocaine hidden in his shoe. The crack cocaine weighed about 9.5 grams, including packaging, court records stated. Richard was also arrested as part of the investigation. He had been issued a citation to appear in court the following week to answer to a felony charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Richard, who was not in police custody, did show up to the court but left the courthouse on Merchants Row shortly before his hearing was to begin. A $50,000 warrant has been issued for his arrest. Jennifer L. Litch, 25, of Forest Dale, a fourth person arrested as part of the investigation, has already pleaded no contest to a drug conspiracy charge. She is serving a jail sentence of 12 to 48 months.
Two years later, in 2007, he pleaded guilty to failing to tell his probation officer of a drug arrest in New York, and failed to meet with the officer as directed – both violations of his probation. He was ordered to serve 10 months in jail, with credit for roughly four months he already has spent behind bars.
