Austin Li Coon On Survivor 45
Austin Li Coon is one of the contestants of Survivor 45.
The veteran reality series’ historic 45th season will maintain the format that has been known as the “new era” over the past few years. Three tribes comprise the initial grouping of 18 players. Over the course of 26 days, they will embark on perilous travels, deal with “mergatory” and rice trades, and engage in a competition for social, tactical, and physical dominance. Their professions range from truck drivers to singers to civil rights attorneys.
The first returning player of the new period is Bruce Perreault, who was given another shot despite just playing one day in season 44, making seventeen of them new to the game. But regardless of where they are from or how much experience they have, they all want to win the game and be the last one standing when it is over.
Austin shared that his Survivor journey started with his mom. He added, “She’s been watching ever since the first first episode. And that came out when I was four. But back then, I was not huge into reality T.V. I didn’t really watch Survivor.”
He added, “One day, I came back. I was like, “Man, it’s kind of sad. I should just sit and watch it.” And I was instantly hooked. I was like, “This is so awesome.” So I just binged everything. And we text every single day about Survivor strategies; we call all the time. This whole process of getting here has been like a shared dream. So that’s really what got me here.”
Austin added that he has been training for this for years. He did a 60-hour fast. He also worked out twice a day.
About his preparation, he added further, “A couple of years ago, when my dream of being on Survivor was starting to really peak, I did a 230-mile backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail. So I started at the base of Yosemite, I climbed to the top of Half Dome, and then I backpacked with 40 pounds on my back 230 miles to Mount Whitney, and I climbed that. And the entire time, I was thinking about Survivor, how I’d win that.”
Austin believes that he is a lot more “sensitive and empathetic for someone who might look like me and big and strong and stuff.” But it also poses a disadvantage for him. “Because the one thing I’m really nervous about is getting actually genuinely really connected with people and then having to cut them off. I already thought that if my tribe lost first immunity and we had to vote someone off, that was going to be a heartbreaker. That’s something I don’t think I can really be prepared for. I just have to be ready to suck it up when the time comes. And I hope I can; I think I can. But we’ll see.”

Austin Li Coon is currently in a relationship with his girlfriend Jessica Gingerich. They have been dating at least since 2018. In May 2018, he announced, “Sometimes (most of the time) I don’t realize how I’m dressed until it’s too late and I’ve already left my apartment … but she still holds my hand.”
Later in August of the same year, he added, “She drove from Indiana to Chicago at 5 am and flew across to DC to help me clean and move into my new apartment… The least I could do is give her some insta love. Thanks for letting me be lazy 😍.”
