Meet Beata Kowalski, Maya Kowalski Mother
Beata Kowalski is the later mother of Maya Kowalski. Maya was born in 2006 as the oldest of two children of Beata and Jack Kowalski. Despite having steadfast love, Maya’s childhood was regrettably not entirely happy. She and her brother Kyle, who is two years younger, were indeed treated with the utmost care. But everything fell apart when Maya was just nine in the middle of 2015 she started having several health issues.
After all, she started having severe headaches in addition to asthma attacks, and then her feet began to curl inward, lesions started to appear on all of her limbs, and her skin started to feel like it was on fire.
Maya was consequently hurried to a plethora of medical professionals, but none of them were able to help her. While some were genuinely perplexed by her symptoms, at least a few indicated it was all in her brain. When Beata’s thorough investigation led to a potential diagnosis of the uncommon Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), she quickly scheduled an appointment with a specialist.
The Kowalskis visited Dr. Anthony Kirkpatrick in October 2015. But he only confirmed that Maya had advanced classic CRPS before providing a detailed treatment strategy. After low-dose ketamine infusions and initial physical therapy didn’t help, he quickly advised a much more extreme (experimental) ketamine coma to reset her entire system.
Even though Maya experienced some negative side effects from the dangerous surgery (in Mexico), such as hazy eyesight, she was willing to put up with them because they improved her general health.
Since there is no known treatment for CRPS, Maya continued receiving ketamine infusions throughout the next months to prevent flare-ups. However, on October 7, 2016, she began experiencing excruciating stomach discomfort. The Venice, Florida resident was then transported into the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital emergency room in St. Petersburg, where her parents did their best to describe her situation.
However, because Beata begged medics to give the 10-year-old a strong dose of ketamine nearly quickly, it generated a lot of questions among the experts.
Although it took some time, Maya’s Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) was finally officially diagnosed thanks to her registered nurse mother Beata’s education and tenacious investigation. However, no one could have ever predicted that this love of hers would be misinterpreted in 2016 when she informed doctors that her young daughter required ketamine to treat her condition, leading to allegations of abuse.
This seemingly unimportant incident subsequently turned into a string of legal troubles, which broke the 43-year-old to the point where she decided the best course of action was to hang herself in the garage of her family on January 8, 2017.
Beata Kowalski Cause Of Death
Beata Kowalski committed suicide which is the cause of her death. “Please take care of Maya and tell her how much I love her every day,” Beata wrote in a drafted email to her family, discovered after her suicide. “… Please tell Kyle also that I love him very much, and I hope he grows up to be a strong good man, has a great future, and stays close to God… I’m sorry, but I no longer can take the pain of being away from Maya and being treated like a criminal. I cannot watch my daughter suffer in pain and keep getting worse.”
On October 7, 2016, Maya Kowalski was sent to the emergency room of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. She had an excruciating stomach discomfort brought on by her advanced CRPS. Therefore, before Beata essentially urged the 10-year-old to be given a high dose of ketamine, both of her parents did their utmost to explain this difficult, rare disease to the pediatricians on call.
Since the medicine is primarily an anesthetic, this naturally prompted some worries among the experts, but one employee became so concerned for Maya’s well-being that they called social services.
At that point, a child abuse investigator took charge of the case and conducted (supposedly) brief interviews to examine the entire scenario before accusing Beata of serious abuse within days. She most certainly had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSP), a condition in which a caregiver either invents symptoms or induces actual ones to make their ward appear ill, according to their preliminary findings.
The registered nurse was essentially accused of lying about Maya’s entire health in this report, which a subsequent week’s psychiatric assessment disproved.
By this time, however, a district judge had already issued an order requiring Maya to remain in the hospital under state custody in order to explore other treatment options and to stay away from her parents. The saddest aspect for them was that neither Beata nor Jack was initially granted visiting privileges; whereas Jack was eventually granted access to his daughter, Beata was only permitted to call her on call. The two-parent mother was visibly upset as a result, and she broke down when the judge even went so far as to forbid her from giving her ailing 10-year-old a simple embrace after 87 days apart.
