Iowa Hawkeyes point guard Caitlin Clark is on top of the world after she gave one of the best individual performances in NCAA’s history. Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Louisville Cardinals 97-83 to reach the semifinals of NCAA Women’s Basketball; the last time Iowa made it to the semifinals was back in 1993. Hawkeyes will fight undefeated South Carolina in the national semifinals.
Caitlin averaged 27 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.5 rebounds during the season to help Iowa go 26-6. She has 984 points, the sixth-most in a season by any player in Division I women’s history, and over 300 assists.
On March 30th, Caitlin was honored as The Associated Press women’s basketball Player of the Year. “It’s a huge honor. I picked a place that I perfectly fit into and that’s allowed me to show my skill set….,” she told.
The same day, the Iowa native also received three other honors as she won the Wade Trophy and was named to the 10-member WBCA All-America team and the five-member Wooden Award All-American team.
Iowa’s junior guard also accepted the Naismith Award for Player of the Year recently and her parents were super proud to stand beside their daughter as she received her award. When asked by WHO13 News how they felt seeing her daughter receive the award, Caitlin’s mother, Anne Nizzi-Clark said, “Quite amazing. It’s just been a fabulous journey this far and [we’re] super proud of her.”
Caitlin’s father, Brent Clark, added, “It’s more than just an individual award. It’s really a team award… and you don’t achieve those assists without your teammates.”

As it turns out, Caitlin got her sports gene from her dad Brent. He was a two-sport athlete for Simpson College. He was a four-year letter winner for both the baseball and basketball teams from 1985-88. Brent earned First Team All-Conference honors for the baseball team in 1985, 87, and 88, and earned Second Team All-Conference honors in 86.
Caitlin has an amazing relationship with her father, Brent Clark. On Father’s Day (June 20, 2022), Caitlin wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to my first coach and now my biggest fan! Thanks for being the best Dad and most selfless person I know! Love you always.”
