Meet Cat Burns, The Blown Away Christmas Winner
“Blown Away: Christmas” is the spin-off of Netflix’s show that combined the art of blowing glasses with the festive season. And, the winner was the runner-up of Season 2, Cat Burns. She was one of the 10 contestants who competed in the show and secured the top spot.
After the win, Cat took home a $10,000 cash prize, and an extra $10,000 was donated to the charity of her choice. She immediately called her mom and donated her prize money to an animal charity.
Cat is a two different associate degree holder in Glass Fine Art, New Jersey, and in Glass Craft and Design from Salem Community College in Carneys Point, New Jersey. She worked as an assistant for a few renowned glass artists in Philadelphia. She is currently working as a full-time assistant and teaching classes at East Falls Glass Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The New Jersey native is also working in The Studio in Corning, New York.

Cat Burns is creating glasswork but with failing eyesight. She had shared in the past that she needed eyeglasses since the age of two for extreme nearsightedness. Her mother went almost completely blind by the age of 40, so she has fears that she might also lose her vision like her mother, and it’s a possibility.
According to Blog.cmog.org, in recent years, a type of retinopathy plagued her sight. The fluids tear her retina on top of the beginning cataract and color blindness. She feels lucky that her left eye isn’t advancing as fast as her right eye. It forced her to do a reevaluation of exposing her eyes to melting glass.
Cat revealed that there were no other options for surgery she might need. The condition of her eyes affected her work after she was selected as a 2020 Artist-in-Residence at The Studio in Corning for a body of work about it before she even applied to the show.
Cat is also an advocate of mental health. She remembers not wanting to live at the tender age of six. She was diagnosed with anxiety, SAD, BPD, and ADHD. The “Blown Away” winner also claimed that she even got schizophrenia once. So, she found her solace in art and she thinks it is her diary and therapy.
