Who Are Dominic Sessa Parents?
Dominic Sessa, whose parents are Frank Sessa and Jennifer Sessa, was a student at Deerfield Academy, a Massachusetts boarding school, who grabbed the opportunity to try for roles on The Holdovers. He started at Deerfield in tenth grade, a financial aid student.
Dominic had just finished a fall play at his high school and the head of his school had a cast party at his house the following night. He was talking about them filming a movie that took place at his old school, and he was saying that they were doing some location scouting at boarding schools in the area.
Dominic added, “I didn’t really think much of it at that time, and then the next day, my director at the theater program at my school called me into her office and said, ‘There’s a casting agency that’s coming, and coming around this area to audition for this role, in this feature film directed by Alexander Payne.’ And I was like, ‘yeah, I’ll totally do that.’”
Dominic auditioned five or six times before landing the part. However, it wasn’t an easy process from thereon.
“The biggest challenge for me working on a film for the first time would be the turnaround on notes,” Dominic said. “I’ve done a lot of live theater—all I’ve done before are the shows at my school—and you know we have after-school rehearsals, and you receive your notes at the end and you can kind of… go back to your room and think about them.”
Dominic attributes some of his success to his ability to identify with his character Angus Tully, a smart-aleck malcontent, angry that his mom has quickly remarried, irate that he’s stuck over the holidays at his New England boarding school, the fictional Barton Academy, with a misanthropic history teacher (Paul Giamatti) and the school’s grieving cook (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), whose son has died in Vietnam.
“I identify with Angus in a lot of ways,” he said. “I go to what some people would consider to be an affluent boarding school, but I don’t necessarily come from a very affluent family, so I definitely have a sense of slight alienation. Coming into a place like this, I felt a bit of an outcast in some ways. It resonates with me.”
Dominic Sessa Father: Frank Sessa
Frank A Sessa Jr. was Dominic Sessa’s father. Born on 15 October 1970, he was 46 years old when he passed away on 1 April 2017. Dominic was only 14 years old when his father died.
Moreover, Frank Jr. moved to Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey ten years before his death from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where he was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The New Yorker shared that Dominic Sessa’s father was a “payroll guy.”
Frank worked in Sales for Premier Payroll in Royersford, PA.
Frank was the son of Frank Sessa Sr and Veronica “Ronnie” (Piccirilli) Sessa. His father was a graduate class of 1960 of The former Bishop Kenrick H.S. in Norristown. He also was a graduate of Villanova University. During the Vietnam War, Frank Sr. served as a veteran of the US Army.
Frank Sr. attended Lafayette Hill’s Saint Philip Neri Church. Frank used to coach Little League baseball for Whitemarsh Township. He loved to play golf and belonged to the Harbor Pines Country Club in Egg Harbor, New Jersey, along with his son. He was the creator of Chestnut Hill College’s endowment fund, which assists students in need of financial assistance.
