Thomas Hernan, the father of Emma Hernan, was born to his father Thomas W, and Margaret “Peggy” Hernan (Marks). His parents were married for 65 years.

His father Thomas graduated from Cohasset High School, Class of 1943, and served in World War II as a US Navy Corpsman, attached with the 4^th US Marine Corps Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the conflict on Iwo Jima. Mr. Hernan worked for the Cohasset Fire Department for 34 years and retired as Deputy Chief.

His mother, Margaret was the youngest of 12 siblings. She worked for Cohasset’s Deer Hill School as an aide and was a receptionist at the Cohasset Swim Center. A devoted Catholic, she loved to knit, cook for her family, and spend time with friends at Monday morning coffee at the Senior Center.

Sadly, Thomas lost his father on 4 January 2013 at the age of 87. He then lost his mother on 20 November 2019.

Thomas’s siblings are Carol Berens and husband Michael of Weymouth and Jack and wife Cindy of Scituate.

The chief commended all the firefighters who helped, and particularly thanked the first due companies, including Capt. Brian McGowan, Lt. Eric Norlin, and Firefighters Tom Hernan, Rich Dehn, and Matt Regan. In the event, Tom had ensured that the water hose made it to the second floor.

Tom graduated from Cohasset High School.
