Francia Peña is the star of the new season of TLC’s sMothered. The show, if you are unfamiliar with the premise, is about an absurdly intimate relationship between mothers and daughters. The show delivers everything cringely possible. According to San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Francia is appearing on the show with her daughter Paula Contento.
But, in their case, it’s a role reversal.

Francia Peña On sMothered
Francia Peña works a lot so her daughter Paula Contento is responsible for cleaning and making her mother’s lunches (oatmeal pancakes, chicken wings, and Paula’s own takes on pizza are favorites). “There is no other person I have more fun with than my daughter,” Francia revealed. Paula confirmed her mother’s statement adding that she “would spend all my hours of the day with my mom, naked and in bed.”
The mother-daughter duo believes there should be no boundaries in their relationship.
Together, they dance, party, and sleep on their birthday suit, occasionally engaging in tickle fights. The mother-daughter relationship is inverted in this couple. Paula is in charge of seeing that her mother is well fed and always has a packed lunch while Francia’s youthful energy causes her to act like a child. When Paula, an only child, hears that Francia is preparing to adopt her niece from Colombia, her possessiveness toward her mother to new heights. As a result, Paula devises a complex scheme to thwart her travels and keep her at home under her control.
Once they were chosen for “sMothered,” the Pasadena duo claimed they caught up on some of the tragedies from the program. However, they had received requests to take part in other reality series before that.
“We had to get in the groove of it, and once we got acquainted with everything, the filming started being less, about a couple of times a month,” Francia told San Gabriel Valley Tribune. “And they became our family. We left our doors open for them. They fed us. We were very spoiled by them.”
They have wrapped up filming and are back on their old routine. The mother-daughter forged their bond when they first immigrated from Columbia to the States when Paula was 9 years old.
Paula admitted that she still carefully defends the time she spends with her mother, a worry that TLC viewers will witness on television. Paula predicted that it would be entertaining to watch.
She added, “I love that we’re the first Latinas (on the show) and we get to portray our Colombian culture and how we are as a people and that people who don’t know me personally will get to see all the fun and be entertained”.
Bragging about Paula, Francia told the news outlet, “Paula’s an influencer, she has a lot of drive, she keeps saying she wishes she could be more like me, but she already is better. She’s very empathetic. She cares about people in the world, always searching for answers. I have people on Instagram tell me how she helped them”.
“From the beginning, I saw this as a great opportunity to tell mothers it’s okay to really feel like you can be the best friend of your daughter,” Francia concluded. “You can be the best friend of your daughter when you have communication, set boundaries, be transparent, and just work at being close to that person who came from your womb”.
