Meet Gabriel Rodriquez who before winning Top Chef: Mexico worked his way up the ranks in the kitchen after starting as a dishwasher at the world’s renowned restaurant Pujol.
Amid exploring the country’s unique cuisine, he was presented with the opportunity to work as a Sous Chef for Eduardo Garcia at Maximo’s Bistrot in CDMX. And so with his support, he competed and won the second season of Top Chef Mexico. And then in 2023, he chose to go on the 20th season of Top Chef: World All-Stars as one of the “cheftestants”. Let us tell more about this recent stint of his and more in this writing called ‘Gabriel Rodriquez Bio’.
Gabriel Rodriquez On Top Chef
Until the “Top Chef Is No Picnic”, i.e. 13 April 2023-episode of Top Chef: World All-Stars Season 20, Gabriel “Gabri” Rodriquez was still in the competition. This meant he could still win the $250,000 prize, along with a feature in Food & Wine magazine and an appearance at the 40th annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen. And even if he does not get fortunate that way, he will still be benefiting from the exposure to that grand of a platform.
So far in the completion, viewers found Gabriel to be “a fountain of positivity”. They also thought that he is a walking disaster. So, excited about the culinary creations, he at times seemed to be forgetting to share the kitchen or follow the rules.
Each of the contestants seemed to be struggling in their own way because the Top Chef franchises have not all followed the exact same format. In Gabriel’s case, because Top Chef: Mexico has no shopping component, he was seen loading his cart at Whole Foods with nearly twice his allotted budget.
Gabriel has been really excited about the show. So, on social media, he has been consistently teasing/promoting his clips from the show, and giving his updates on the competition. Also, he explained that he is very grateful to have met such a talented group. Having cooked with Top Chef: Spain Season 1 winner Begoña “Bego” Rodrigo, who got eliminated on episode 5, he said, was one of the best experiences of his life in the kitchen.
In this episode that let Begoña go, she and Dale competed in the Quickfire Challenge. Dale won because of his smoked salmon and Egg Salad Sandwich, Bacon and Chive Scone with Gruyère Cheese, and ginger cake with mango compote. Then, in the elimination challenge, the chefs other than Begoña separated into two teams, yellow and blue, as they prepared gourmet baskets for a picnic at Highclere Castle. Gabriel here was in the yellow team but it was Nicole from ‘Blue’ and not him or the others who won the competition and the US$10,000.
