India, after 21 years, has brought home the title of Miss Universe title in December 2021 on its 70th edition after the win of Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu. Meet Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, The Miss Universe 2021
Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu has become The Miss Universe 2021 held in Israel and brought home the title after 21 years. She became the third Indian to have won the title after actors Susmita Sen who won in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. She represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021.
Harnaaz was crowned by her predecessor Andrea Meza of Mexico, who won the pageant in 2020. She said, “I am immensely grateful to the Almighty, my parents, and the Miss India Organization for guiding and supporting me throughout. Loads of love to everyone who prayed and wished the crown for me.”

Harnaaz first emerged into the scene in 2017 as the Time Fresh Face Miss Chandigarh. Furthermore, she was also presented with the title of Miss Max Emerging Star India in the year 2018. Moreover, her Pageantry milestone also includes the Femina Miss India Punjab in 2019.
Later on 15 June 2019, she took part in the Femina Miss India 2019. She competed against 29 other contestants in the competition which was held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium in Mumbai, India. But she got eliminated being in the Top 12.
In Miss Diva 2021 pageant, Harnaaz represented Chandigarh at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Mumbai. She won the competition as India’s Miss Universe 2021 on 30 September 2021. During the LIVA Miss Diva 2021 sub-contest Harnaaz was felicitated by Shivaji Kuna, co-founder, Kailon, and Miss Universe 2020 – 3rd Runner-up Adline Castelino.

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu was born to her parents Pritampal Singh Sandhu and Dr. Rabinder Kaur Sandhu. The Sandhu family is originally from Batala but has been staying in Kharar since 2008.
Her mother, Rabinder is a senior medical officer and gynecologist at a hospital in Mohali. “I will make you proud” is what Harnaaz had said to her mother on 12 December 2021 which she revealed to Hindustan Times.
Rabinder said to the news agency that she advised her daughter, Harnaaz means everyone’s pride, to stay focused and leave everything to Almighty. Dr. Kaur prayed at a gurdwara when the event was taking place.
“We were fully confident that she would make the country proud,” Dr. Kaur said.
Harnaaz’s father Pritampal is in the real estate business. Harnaaz, her mother, and her brother wanted to tell her father about her entering the beauty pageantry but they were hesitant. Now, he has become her biggest supporter.
After her win, she posted an Instagram story and gave a shout-out to her family “My strength, my lifelines,” dedicating the post to her mother and her brother.
Furthermore, Harnaaz credited her mother for being her “biggest inspiration”. She also revealed that her mother was the creator of her dreams and the ladder to achieve her goals. Moreover, she also credited her mother for breaking generational patriarchy to become a successful gynecologist and lead her family.
