Ilima Shim On Tough As Nails
CBS’s Tough as Nails returned for its fourth season on January 4, 2023, and as always, 12 competitors tested their endurance, life skills, mental toughness, and strength, whilst aiming for the $200,000 grand prize. But unlike other contestants, Ilima Shim wasn’t on the show for fame or money or even to prove herself. Rather, she was secretly signed up for the show by her girlfriend and her girlfriend’s mother and she didn’t want to let them down.
According to Ilima, her girlfriend and her mom binge-watched all these reality TV shows. So, knowing that Ilima did construction, they felt that she was “more than capable to do any and all of the challenges” and signed her up. Three months later, they got the callback, and tempted to be the first girl from Hawaii on the show, Ilima accepted. “I feel like it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life,” she added.
Now, after the Jan 18 ep of the show, Ilima is still the competition. In the last ep, after Larron made a mistake with one of the oil changes, his Savage Crew (including Ilima) had to use the extra time to clean it up. Unfortunately, later, the Savage Crew made another mistake that caused oil to shoot out the bottom of one of the cars when they started it up.
Eventually, Ilima and Aly then failed to complete the individual challenge in time. Thus, they had to battle each other in the Overtime challenge where they were tasked to fix two flat tires on a truck. Luckily, after a close battle, Ilima edged out Aly for the win.
So, up until then, Aly Bala, Renee, and Synethia Bland were the three contestants to get sent home.

Yes, Ilima Shim was married to her ex-husband Brada Bino before 2012. The duo shares two kids — a son and a daughter, 5 and 10 years of age respectively in 2023.

Ilima Shim Job
Ilima Shim is a construction worker. Instead of going to college and becoming burdened by debt, the week before she received her diploma, Ilima moved in with her cousin and started a job as a laborer for the landscaping firm Advanced Building Systems.
After 2 ½ years with the company, building rock walls and performing other tough tasks, she then joined the hospitality business at Four Seasons Resort Hualālai. In 2015, she then decided to move to O‘ahu to pursue a modeling career and went on appear in Hawai’i Tattoo Models calendars. That very year, she even was named Queen PIAE (Pacific Ink and Art Expo) and asked to be a representative of the Hawai‘i Tattoo Expo.
Then she had her second child, and in 2020, she found herself back in the hospitality industry, working for Four Seasons again. Unfortunately, after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she lost her job. Thus, she turned to construction work, and things never looked better.
Did you know: Ilima once in the spotlight in 2003 after she earned a place on the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Track and Field All-Star Team.
Ilima Shim Family
Ilima Shim turning blue collar has only been a blessing to her but to her family as well. She’s helping them out with construction work and other handy stuff as well.
But then again, Ilima said she’s always been helping her family trim trees and clear lots and pathways to pick coffee. Also, she was always on the go and helped her mother clean condos.
Some of her family members are Taylor Kaleilehua Kelekolio Alcaras (niece), Lehua Galieto (cousin), Koko N Boots Rivera-Kuahuia (cousin), and Rhona Babino (mother-in-law).
Trivia: When Ilima was 16, her brother died in a car accident the same day her grandmother died.
