Jennifer Warren On MTV’s The Exhibit
On March 3, 2023, MTV debuted The Exhibit: Discovering the Next Great Talent. Seven American artists compete in the brand-new reality competition program for a chance to exhibit their work at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and win a $100,000 cash prize.
Jennifer is competing for the cash prize along with other contestants. Although Jennifer Warren paints in a variety of styles, her most recent oil paintings effectively depict the everyday lives of women of color in household situations.
“A lot of work went into producing The Exhibit and I am beyond excited for the first episode to premiere,” Jennifer told Artsy. “When I was cast on the show, at first I thought it was too good to be true, but I decided to go along with it anyway. Once reality sunk in, I saw this as a big opportunity for representation as a Black woman, emerging artist, and oil painter.”
The opportunity for Warren’s work to represent Black women across the country is much more important to her than the competition, as she is mostly self-taught.
“I knew I would need to be vulnerable to the process and release any fears and doubts I had about the competition aspect. I felt the most important thing was for others who look like me and have a similar life story to mine to see me existing in this space. That became the purpose that fueled my eagerness to participate in the show and give 100% of myself the entire time,” Jennifer added.

She didn’t know the love that she would eventually develop for oil painting. Her semester at Aix had a profound impact on her life.
Jennifer had the impression that a door had opened, allowing me to discover who she truly is and what her destiny is. She spent a lot of our official education at Marchutz learning how to view the world through the eyes of painters, with a special emphasis on classical impressionism.
Over the next decade, Jennifer continued to keep my passion for oil painting close. She has taught herself new techniques. Jennifer moved her studio across the country from Seattle to Chicago, shifted her focus between different genres, dabbled in NFTs, gained representation with the Martin Gallery, exhibited at The Other Art Fair, worked with galleries and clients internationally, received the 35 under 35 Rising Star award from Saatchi Art, elevated her business and made my art collectible by producing limited edition prints.
Jennifer attended Marchutz School of Fine Arts and Eckerd College. She has exhibited her work in The Martin Gallery (Matters of The Dark), The Martin Gallery (And Boldly We Go), Online Exhibition, Saatchi Art (Major Figures), The Other Art Fair, Sidney Larson Gallery at Columbia College, and The Other Art Fair Online Studios.
