Taking to Facebook on May 15, 2023, Joel announced his resignation from 99.9 The Hawk. He wrote, “Hey Friends! I wanted to share a life update with you; I am no longer with 99-9 The Hawk or The Hawk Morning Show. This was not an easy decision, but I feel like it’s the right move for me at this time… ”
Joel’s on-air partner Rick Michael commented on Joel’s departure from the radio station saying, “Joel as you know has become a great talent over the years working with me and The Hawk Morning Show. I always knew there would be a point when Joel would have to expand his horizons and move on… He has decided to pursue other options and avenues life has to offer and as much as I will miss him, I respect his wishes and wish him nothing but the best life has to offer.”
Through Facebook, Rick shared that Joel submitted his resignation following his return from a vacation.

Since Joel’s father worked in radio in the 1980s, he and his family knew about the cutthroat nature of the business. As for Joel, he had no other plans besides working at The Hawk and fortunately for him, it turned out really good.
Before working at 99.9 The Hawk, Joel worked at Connoisseur Media. He joined Connoisseur Media in November 2016 as Programming Assistant and left as an Assistant Production Director in February 2021.
Since January 2013, Joel has also been operating Shimer and Son Entertainment, providing DJ service at weddings, corporate parties, and School Events.
