Meet John Easterling, Olivia Newton-John Husband
John Easterling and Olivia Newton-John’s paths crossed for the first time at an environmental show in the 80s. They stayed friends for 20 years before they got romantically involved in around 2006. US Weekly reported that when Easterling spent the night at Olivia’s guest house while he was in California on business, the two’s relationship really started to blossom.
The businessman fractured his lower spine in an automobile accident the next morning as he was traveling to the airport. He returned to Newton-home John’s to relax after turning down medications at the hospital. Then, a year later, John eventually attended one of the Grease actor’s performances in Miami, where he was residing at the time.
“The lights went down and I heard this Peruvian music, and she stepped out and sang ‘Pearls on a Chain’,” he recalled to Australian Women’s Weekly in April 2018. “[It’s] a very healing song — and that’s when I recognized who she was. I thought, ‘She’s a healer, and this is her medium of healing.’ All I could think was that I wanted to introduce her to other healers who work in the Amazon.”
Olivia agreed to the Amazonian adventure and John believed that she was meant to be his wife. They bonded over the shared interest in wellness culture and alternative healing methods.
The couple’s opportunity to connect over their shared love of the jungle and the therapeutic properties of nature was made possible by their journey through South America. “We’d see each other every year at functions, and the more I got to know her, I thought, ‘Oh, she’s a really nice person. She really does care about people and animals and the rainforest,” told the Women’s Weekly.
Eventually, they tied the knots in a private Peruvian ceremony on 21 June 2008. They had their second wedding on June 30 of the same year.
Aside from telling her daughter, Olivia Newton-John kept her nuptials a secret from her family until the couple hosted a July 4 barbeque at her home in Malibu. “It was the one thing I could keep private,” she told PEOPLE. “That’s how we wanted it because my life is so public.”
The pair established the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund in October 2020 to carry on funding research into plant therapies for cancer.
After her breast cancer diagnosis, she opened up about her husband’s support in her journey.
“My husband hands me all these herbs every morning and makes me green algae drink,” she told PEOPLE. “He grows the plants and makes them into a liquid for me. I take drops maybe four to five times a day.”
Olivia also mentioned how much she’s been enjoying her time off and with her family. “I’ve been working my whole life. Now, I’m getting up in the morning, feed my cat and my dog, and my husband, usually in that order. Just enjoying being a housewife.”
In 2016, Olivia spoke to PEOPLE about her CEO husband. She stated, “He says yes to everything, he says yes to life!”.
She added more, “I’m very lucky I have a wonderful, beautiful husband who is just so loving and fantastic. I always tell my friends, ‘You’re never too old to find love.’ I found the love of my life at 59 going on 60! I’m grateful.”.

According to Olivia Newton-John’s IG post, John Easterling was born to his father Lewis Thomas “Tom” Easterling, and mother Shirley Easterling.
Tom was born on 20 January 1924. He served as a combat fighter pilot in the US Air Force from 1943 to 1947. On February 8, 1943, with his “Pilot Single Engine” qualification, 1st Lieutenant Easterling began his service in the European Theater. Training originally on the P-40 Warhawk in Tifton, Georgia, he transitioned to the “Jug”, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a medium fighter escort that doubled as a ground attack unit.
As a member of the 358th Fighter Group, 365th Squadron, 9th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations, Lt. Tom completed 36 combat missions in his 11 months overseas.
Tom passed away on 29 May 2021 at the age of 97. “In honor and respect of my brave and wonderful father-in-law Tom Easterling, whom we lost over Memorial Day weekend,” her post began. “We will always remember his courage and strength of will and his laugh. Tom was a loving and caring man — he was 97. Will miss you Tom and always be grateful for your service, to which we owe our freedom.”
Tom was the youngest of two daughters and four sons born to Robert and Daisy Mae Ballard Easterling. As for John, he has a brother named Donald Eugene Easterling and a sister named Nancy Ann Harrellson.
