Jon says in his introduction video that his grandfather didn’t speak to anyone for the first year after his grandma died three years ago. Grandpa Ray eventually came out as gay to Jon. Ray admits that he was hesitant to inform Jon at first because he was afraid his grandson would “stop loving me.”
“I was 16 when I met my wife. I told her about myself, and she said, ‘I love you and it’s OK,'” Ray said. “Jon was the last person I told because I was scared he would stop loving me.”
Once Ray came out, Jon assured his grandfather that nothing could change his feelings for him. “He was there for me more than anybody,” Grandpa Ray says about Jon. Jon said he immediately told his grandfather nothing would change between the two “because you’re my best friend and you’re my dad.”
