“I owe a lot of my love of theatre to her [his mother],” Jonah said in October 2016. “She’d always take me to shows, and she gave me quite a diverse exposure to the theatre world. Though I grew up with it, I never really admitted to myself that I wanted to act until my mid-teens.”

Jonah made his debut in the 2017 British drama film, The Last Photograph. Although he had starred in productions like Punk Rock at the Lyric Theatre in 2014 and Equus in 2015, The Last Photograph gave him the big break he was looking for. In 2018, he then starred in three movies Postcards from London, Ashes in the Snow, and Old Boys, and made his way into Hollywood with a starring role in the 2019 feel-good film, A Dog’s Way Home.

Now, he playing Prince Eric in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and also is working on his next project, World on Fire. In the latter show, he portrays a grimy pilot called Harry in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II.

Debra Hauer is Jonah Hauer-King’s mother who influenced him to become an actor. She was born to Polish Jews parents who fled to America in the 1930s. It was also because of this reason Jonah was always fascinated by “how war affects one’s identity.”

Her parents were named Samuel David Hauer (a surgeon who was in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII) and Mildred Harris.
