I didn’t value her as a teenager… I took her for granted and we fought like hell. The irony is, as a woman I value her so much more now, not even as a mother, but as a person. She was absurdly intelligent, studying biomedical engineering at Howard and Johns Hopkins, fierce, fearless, beautiful, and she was my mother.”
Paula was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Carrie and Ritholiz Birdsong, and lived in Maryland, prior to residing in Basking Ridge for 13 years. In 1979, Paula graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Ga. In 1984, she received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Howard University. Then in 1995, she attended Johns Hopkins University and received her M.S. degree in biomedical engineering. Paula worked for Lucent Technologies in Murray Hill as an engineer. She was a member of the Hun PTA.
