Late surfer Mikala Jones is married to his wife Emma Brereton. He posted a throwback of him and Emma in February 2018. He wrote, “Pre-parenthood. #justpasdingthrough @reef.” There isn’t much about their marriage.
According to New York Post, a Hawaiian surfing star bled to death after severing an artery in his groin while riding a wave in Indonesia this weekend. He was involved in a freak surfing accident in the Mentawai Islands Sunday.
Mikala was a guest at the Awera Resort with his family when, according to sources cited by the surfing website Surfline, around 9:15 a.m. he most likely impaled his left groin on his surfboard fin, creating a 4-inch-long wound. His death’s precise circumstances are still unknown, however, some close to him said on social media that he passed away after severing his femoral artery, which caused significant blood loss.
“Details are a little sketchy but it sounds like he was hit by his surfboard, cut a main artery and that’s all I know,” Jones’ friend and photographer Brian Bielmann posted on Facebook.
The sport of tube surfing, which involves riding inside a breaking wave’s barrel, made Mikala famous in Hawaii. The native of Hawaii had been sharing breathtaking GoPro recordings of his travels, leading Surfline to call him “one of the 21st century’s most photogenic surfers.”

Isabella, after her father’s death, took to her IG and wrote, “I’m in so much disbelief right now, this doesn’t feel real. I love you so much Dad and I wish I could give you one last hug. I wish I could tell you again how much I love you and thank you for being the best dad. I wish you were still here with us, you weren’t supposed to leave yet.”
She added, “This is too soon. I know you are in a good place now with nana vi and your friends. I wish this never happened and we could just wake up and go surf together tomorrow morning.”
Isabella added further, “I’m not sure how to put this in words, but my dad got into a bad surfing accident and didn’t make it. Im happy he was doing what he loved the most. Life will never be the same without you. I miss you so much, I would do anything to get one more moment, even if it was us arguing and then laughing our asses off.”
She concluded the post, “Thank you for teaching me so many life lessons, and always being there for me. I wish you were still here with us right now. I will always be thinking about you Dad. I love you so much, thank you for everything ❤️ fly high 🕊️ ur a fucking legend.”
Isabella also made another post. She wrote, “Thank you, Dad, for taking me on so many adventures, pushing me to do things when I didn’t want to, teaching me so many life lessons, always being there for me, and making us all happy. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without you. I will forever carry on your legacy. Thank you for taking me out to your spots and teaching me your ways.”
She added, “My earliest memory with you was when you took me surfing at echo beach and we went tandem together and we caught a wave out back all the way up to the sand and face planted 😂 When I was younger my dad would always take my friends and me out to tandem together and we would send it on bombs. One of the funniest moments I’ve had with you out in the water was when I was about 9.”
She concluded the post with, ” I’ll keep telling people the wrong places whenever I surf. You were an amazing Dad, I love you so much. We all will miss you and we will forever love you. I promise we will bring you to all of the right places. I promise I will be strong, I will keep making you proud, and I’ll take care of Mom and Violet and all of our family. MJ ALL DAY 🤍 thank you everyone for all of the love n support 🙏🏽❤️.”
