Savannah and Jake are among the two couples from Iowa appearing on Love During Lockup season 5. The other couple is the Davenport-based duo LaTisha and Keith.

Jake has been arrested a couple of times. On New Year’s Day 2011, Jake and two of his friends robbed a drug dealer from Cedar Fall who was supposed to be out of town. Long story short, Jake and his friends got their money, drugs, and the couple’s (drug dealer and his girlfriend Amanda) cell phone.
Amanda used her computer to track the cell phone and told cops about their location. Jake was charged with first-degree robbery. Jake was a senior in high school at the time. After he was booked he was in jail for a year and was kept in solitary confinement for around 8 months because he would pick fights with cops.
Jake was sentenced to 35 years at the age of 19.
The Love After Lockup spinoff series on We TV centers on “non-cons” who fall in love with those who are incarcerated. The reality program will make a comeback on July 21 with eight one-hour episodes.

When Savannah sought for prison wives on Facebook to help her prepare for a theater part, she met Jake. Savannah and Jake are a couple from Iowa City. They discovered they shared more than they had initially thought after exchanging messages. Savannah started advocating for jail reform after that.
Savannah and Jake, who are both in their 30s, had to wade through extremely tough waters when they first started dating.
The early days were difficult for the couple because Savannah lived in Iowa City, Iowa, and Jake was still incarcerated, but ultimately they started to compromise and met each other halfway. Savannah also had a lot of help from her loved ones, which made it simpler for her to handle the difficulties that arose at every turn.

Savannah reached out to Jake during the time of the holiday. It was a few months after Jake’s previous relationship. She told him, “Hey I know you don’t know me. I know that the holidays are super tough especially when you’re incarcerated you know.” She added, “So I was like just want you to know hope you’re doing good I saw your petition online.”
The couple kept in contact and Savannah fell in love with Jake. And the rest was history.
Savannah shared this in her podcast in July 2020. By then they were together for only six months.
About their first conversation, Savannah shared that she remembered asking him to call her. They were communicating only through O mail. As far as she could remember, Savannah was nervous, gitty, and guarded.
